        Objectives; The dental mobile bus was introduced for the first time in 1999 with the aim of improving the oral health of the soldiers and the dental teatment capacity during war time. However, t is not adequately repaired or replaced after eqipment life year due to various reasons such as cost and lack of person. The purpose of this study is to sxamine the operation status of dental mobile bus and to present proper dental deploymens for each division type through the results and questionnaires. Methods; The operation status of dental equipments was reported through dental affair reports, questionnaire, and field trip. In order to present the appropriate dental deploy equipment for each type of division, questionnaires were administered to dental surgeon and chief of medical battalion. Results ; The operational status of dental mobile bus in the army for past three years is 14.2 times per year and 142.4 cases per year. The first reason of the difficulties in operation, the surgeon selected the aged eqiupment, and chief of medical battalion choose the narrow space of dental mobile. Conclusions ; It is necessary to improve the dental deploy eqipments considering the mission of the division, the economic cost, and troop reduction.

        Objectives : Suicide is one of the leading causes of deaths in South Korea, however little data has been published about the Korea military. This study aimed to examine the epidemiology and characteristics of suicide related behavior in the South Korea Military. Methods : This study investigated the characteristics of patients who admitted to emergency room of the 14 military hospitals from 2009 to 2011 by suicide related behavior. 816 patients were identified by retrospective chart review including demographic, rank, attempt place, method, timing and suspected psychiatric problems. Results : The most vulnerable rank associated with suicide related behavior was private first class. The main methods of suicide attempt were poisoning(37%) and knife cutting(30%). About 25% of the total suicide related behavior was assessed as high risk attempt including falling down, firearm, burning oneself. In addition, psychiatric disorders, particularly depression, adjustment disorder were suspected with these patients. Media diffusion of stories about suicide was shown to increase the suicide related behavior in military personnel. Conclusion : This study implies that suicide and related behavior is main health issues in Korea military. Systemized psychiatric evaluation and management of suicide behavior are crucial to prevent suicide during military services.

      • 신증후군출혈열 위험지역 감염매개 동물의 유전자 분석을 통한 감염지역 식별

        Objectives; ROK AFMC has conducted complete epidemiological survey on HFRS patients since 2016 ’after a soldier death caused by HFRS at a unit in Pochen, Gyeonggi-do in 2015‘. By collecting vector animals at the same time, purpose of this study is to prevent the reoccurrence of HFRS patients by identifying infected areas. Methods; Identify expected habitats of rodents which are a vector of hantaviruses on the basis of HFRS definite diagnosis report from 2017 March to 2018 February and ask Korea University to analyze samples. Detect a gene by nested PCR for seropositive samples after conducting antibody tests for hantaviruses with indirect immunofluorescence assay in the laboratory. Results; Collected samples by 10 times in HFRS endemic areas and captured a total of 175 rodents. A total of 144 were Apodemus agrarius, 16 were Myodes regulus, 13 were Crocidura lasiura and one sample was Mus musculus. A total of 22 hantavirus antibody-positive samples were found and the hantavirus-specific gene was detected in 11 out of 22 samples in the six areas where the rodents were captured. Conclusions; Demonstrate the outcome of hantavirus genes from HFRS patients forms genetic clustering with that from A. agrarius. Also, identify highly HFRS risk areas and conduct action to prevent additional patient occurrence at the same time.
