Road traffic noise characteristic and its influence are basically analyzed in order to reduce and predict the road traffic noise through planning of apartment complex and sound insulation of apartment building. This study is to present the basic data for reducing and predicting road traffic noise in urban apartment buildings. For the purpose of it, the traffic noise characteristics and its influence on buildings are analyzed through the field measurement of the traffic flow rates and noise levels in subjected 3 apartment buildings. Traffic flow rate and road conditions of their adjacent roads are different from each other. As a result, the noise levels from the even road adjacent G and S apartment fluctuated by the traffic signal, and those from the sloped road by K apartment even more fluctuated because of less traffic volume and more rapid traffic speed. Noise spectra in frequencies by the adjacent roads show high in mid and higher frequencies, 500 ㎐~2 ㎑ due to traffic flow of them. Noise reduction showed much in the order of the horizontal distance, and that of the apartment building perpendicular to the road was much more than that parallel to it. Noise reduction in living room showed about 15 ㏈ (A) in apartment parallel to the road, and its effect on apartment parallel to the road is more effective than that perpendicular to it.
가설방음벽과 복공판에 의한 건설공사 소음의 저감에 관한 연구

Noise from construction site in urban area and its propagation characteristics was investigated, and predicted noise levels of adjacent buildings to the site are compared with noise criteria in this study. Construction noise in the stage of earth work, excavation, and ground shoring were assumed. Noise reduction effect were calculated by computer simulation of the vertical and the horizontal noise influence range according to the condition of decking plate on the ground of site and the noise barrier’s height which is installed on the boundary of construction site. As a result, noise reduction effect showed 12~13 dB behind the noise barrier, and the effective range of it was calculated to about 50 m high from ground level. Decking plate covering the construction site during excavation reduced the construction noise to 10~15 dB. So, noise barrier’s height is limited to the reduction effect of construction noise, but the decking plate covering the whole construction site is very effective to the construction noise management.

Government made a regulation to protect outdoor noise from roads and railways in residential housings. Many residents are living in high rise apartments, but they complain of the noisy environment. So, high sound insulation window systems are needed against outdoor noise levels. We measured sound insulation performance of 20 windows systems in acoustic laboratory and field, and investigated the defect of sound leakage and differences of test result. On the basis of the result, it is thought to be established the guidelines for selecting the proper window system to be satisfied with acceptable indoor noise levels.
