Objective This study was to analyze the current status of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the ROK military, and to use the analysis results as basic data to establish a prompt response strategy in the event of a new type of infectious disease in the military in the future. Method A simple statistical analysis was conducted based on the data collected by COVID-19 Disease Control Headquarters of the Armed Forces Medical Command during the period from February 2020 to December 2021. The incidence rate was compared with that of general community of the same period. Results The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the ROK military was 3,280. The route of infection was mostly community contact, followed by contact in the military and overseas inflow. After the completion of the COVID-19 vaccination (two rounds), the number of the confirmed cases was analyzed again in September 2021, which found that the number of the confirmed cases of unvaccinated soldiers was 44.2% higher than vaccination completion group. The incidence rate in the military was 4.8 per 100,000 persons, which was only 2.7% of that of general community (179.6 per 100,000 persons). Conclusion In order to prevent the spread of infectious disease in the military, it is important to take preemptive measures, such as compliance with quarantine rules, recommendation of vaccination, and taking quick measures when the disease starts to spread in community.
