In this paper, It proposes an algorithm that automatically estimates the initial angle of the rotor of a interior permanent magnet synchronous motor. The conventional passive method for estimating the initial angle takes a long time and its accuracy depends on the operator’s skill. The method of automatically estimating by applying the voltage vector is dependent on the cogging torque characteristics of the motor and the accuracy of the initial angle is reduced. Therefore, we proposed an imbalance algorithm to estimate the optimal initial angle information. The proposed method is applicable to all PMSM motors and useful to initialize to control the motor and verified through actual experiments.

In this paper, the method of automatically estimating the rotor position angle offset in the no-load condition of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) used as a traction motor for xEV was implemented, and the output performance according to each method was compared. IPMSM requires accurate rotor position angle offset information unique to each motor for optimized output of the motor. Traditional methods estimate the rotor position angle offset with the motor connected to the dynamo, so for a traction motor with a large size, it is costly and time-consuming to connect the dynamo. Therefore, it is essential to estimate the rotor position angle offset of the motor under no load. Two commonly used methods were implemented to estimate the rotor position angle offset, and each estimation method was applied to compare, analyze, and identify its characteristics.

In this paper, it propose the loss separation method for PMSM using MTPA control. It has been defined the loss separation method for induction and AC synchronous motors in IEC60034-2-1. However, for the PMSM (permanent magnet synchronous motor), there is no standards defined for the loss separation method. Therefore, the proposed method is applied to the IPMSM as described in IEC60034-2-1 for induction and AC synchronous motors usingMTPA control method and verified.
