ThetoxiceffectsofBisphenolA(BPA)havebeenstudiedinindividualexperimentalanimalsunderdifferentconditions.However,withoutasystematicapproach,itisdifficulttocompareandanalysetheresultsbecauseofdifferencesindoses(concentration),dosingperiods(exposure),researchmethods,andtheeffectsofBPA.Wesystematicallycomparedandanalysedrecentresearch(between2015and2021)thatexaminedtheeffectsofBPAonindividualexperimentalvertebrates(fishes,amphibians,birds,andmammals).Wedividedtheexperimentsintotwocategories:experimentsonfishandamphibiansbyindirectadministration,andexperimentsonbirdsandmammalsbydirectadministration.ThedeleteriouseffectsofexposuretoBPAwereclassifiedintotwotypes:morphologicalandanatomicaleffects,andphysiologicalandneurocognitiveeffects.Experimentalanimalsthathadlessweight,wereyounger,andwerefartherawayfromhumansinevolutionaryrelationships,showedtoxiceffectseveniftheywereexposedtolowconcentrationsofBPAintheshortterm.Long-termadministrationofasmallamountofBPAandshort-termadministrationofalargeamountofBPAalsoshowedseveretoxiceffects.WhentheparentsabsorbedBPAduringpuberty,justbeforefertilisation,orduringpregnancy,toxiceffectsweretransmittedfromdosedparentstooffspring.WithincreasingamountsofBPAproductionandwaste,thereisagrowingpossibilitythatanimalsinvariousecosystemswillbeexposedtoBPA.Therefore,itisnecessarytoidentifytheharmfuleffectsofBPAonvariousanimalsandtheconditionsunderwhichitaffectsthem.WehopethattheresultsreportedherewillcontributetothedevelopmentofstandardizedstudydesignsforBPAresearch,toensurethatresultscanbemorereadilycompared.
