헬리콥터 부모역할과 게임 및 소셜 미디어 중독의 관계: 대학생의 자기효능감의 매개효과

헬리콥터 부모역할은 자녀에 대한 애정을 바탕으로 성인 자녀에 대해 이루어지는 부모의 과도한 개입 및 통제를 의미한다. 성인이행기 대학생에게 헬리콥터 부모역할은 한 개인으로서의 독립성 발달과 자아존중감 형성을 저해할 가능성이 있으며, 이는 대학생의 인터넷 사용에 관한 통제력 부족 및 중독 현상과 연결되어 부정적 결과를 초래할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 헬리콥터 부모역할과 대학생의 게임 및 소셜 미디어 중독과의 관계에 있어 자기효능감의 매개효과를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 서울 지역 대학교에 재학 중인 총 441명의 대학생(만 18-25세)을 대상으로 온/오프라인을 통하여 설문자료를 수집하였으며, Mplus 프로그램의 부트스트래핑 방법을 활용하여 매개모형을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 자기효능감의 매개효과는 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 즉 본 연구에 참여한 대학생들은 그들의 부모가 헬리콥터 부모역할을 수행한다고 인식할수록 자기효능감이 낮은 경향이 있었으며, 이는 게임 및 소셜 미디어 중독 성향을 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 성인이행기 대학생의 게임 및 소셜 미디어 중독 문제를 예방하기 위해서는 부모를 대상으로 적절한 부모역할에 대한 교육과 더불어, 대학생들 스스로가 자신의 행동에 대한 효능감을 습득할 수 있도록 지원하는 것이 필요함을 시사한다. Helicopter parenting refers to over-involved and over-controlled parental behaviors to their adult children based on their affection for their children. Helicopter parenting in emerging adulthood has a possibility to hinder the development of independence as an individual and the formation of self-esteem, and this could lead emerging adults to lack a sense of control and have a negative consequence on addictive phenomenon. Therefore, this study aims to examine the mediating effect of self-efficacy on the association between helicopter parenting and college students’ game and social media addictions among college students. The study sample was 441 college students (ages 18-25) collected from several regional universities in Seoul. In addition, the mediating model was analyzed using the bootstrapping method of the Mplus program. As a result, the mediating effect of self-efficacy was significant. Namely, it was found that the higher levels of helicopter parenting were associated with the lower levels of self-efficacy and associated with the higher levels of gaming and social media addictive tendency. These results suggest that it is necessary not only to educate the parents on the proper parenting role, but also to acquire the beliefs about their own behavior.
