The performance of a page replacement algorithm is affected by the reference locality and the number of page replacements. This study conducts simulation experiments in which varied the number of frames and size of page reference sequence (bundle of demand pages) in order to identify how the performance of memory replacement algorithm changes according to the level of reference locality. It was found that when the page reference sequence is random, the number of page fault in the OPT algorithm decreases by approximately 40% compared to FIFO and LRU algorithms, and when locality is high the number decreases by 47% compared to FIFO algorithm and 32% compared to LRU algorithm. This study is significant in that it provides basic information that can predict the level of change in performance when replacing pages due to the reference locality.
