We were studied to the effect of alloying element and retained austenite on a mechnical properties and that used steels were composed three types composition. According to the soaking temperature, a retained austenite was pricipitated in the bainitic ferrite matrix and it was pricipitated to a flake type of about 2㎛, a mixture of massive and bar type and a flake type of about 1㎛ size. Through x-ray diffraction analysis, the amount of retained austenite was increased with addition of Si and Ni for equal heat treatment condition and it was best abundanted in the soaking temperature of 855℃. The balance value of strength and elongation were complexly controlled not only a retained austenite formation but also a formation characteristic and shape of the retained austenite and bainite. The balance value of strength and elongation were most satisfactory obtained with B and C specimens in a firstly heat treated at 855℃ and the best result was that a 2840㎏/㎟.% with the heat teratment condition of 855℃-400℃ used for C specimen.

The heat treatment charaterristic of SCM 440 and B 16 steels has been investigated in various condition(A, B and C) to the effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties, and the following results were obtained 1. We are obtained a good nitriding characteristic in bainitic structure than other heat treatment cycle in our experiment 2. Fatigue characteristic has shown in order of B>C>A condition as heat treatment cycle 3. The effective hardening depth and fatigue characteristic has been excellented in B 16 than SCM 440 after the nitriding and Q. T for B and C condition 4. Nitriding depth has been increased in addition of Cr, V and the nitriding efficiency is increased as easiness of banite formation to wide range of cooling rate by addition of Mo 5. The depth of compound layer in parallel surface, notched slop plane and notched bottom has been varied to the nitriding depth of 5, 4 and 3μ in relatively uniform pattern after 10h nitriding treatment for SCM 440 into A condition

N/A Nitrided compound layer and diffusion layer structure were observed by SEM. The compound layer and the constituent of nitrided surface of STS 304, STS 316, STS 410 and SACM 645 steel were analysed using EMPA and XRD respectively. The depth of nitriding layer that is obtained from similar nitriding condition decrease in the order of SACM 645>STS 410>STS 316>STS 304. Result of phase transformation of the nitrided at 550℃ by XRD analysis were as follows; The austenitic stainless steel was mainly consist of Cr_2N accompanying with Fe_4N and Fe_2-3N phase and martensitic stainless steel was mainly consist of present Fe_2-3N+Cr_2N phase, but SACM 645 steel was Fe_2-3N phase present only.
