예술은 생활에서 나오지만 또 생활을 더욱 고상하고 풍요롭게 해준다. 길상도안은 중국역사 문화전통의 한 가지 예술 표현양식으로서 사람들의 생활, 습관 그리고 문화배경과 매우 밀접한 관계가 있는데, "길상"은 사람들의 축복, 기원, 동경을 비유, 은유적으로 내포하고 있다. 이를 통해 사람들에게 행복과 희망을 주는 것이다. 표현양식은 각종 도형, 표지상의 운용에서 나타난다. 이러한 전통적인 길상도안이 현대의 평면설계에서 독특하고 개성있게 표현되고 있다. 즉, 현대평면설계 창작영감의 중요한 원천인 것이다. 길상도안의 예술매력을 이해하고 파악하는 것은 현대 평면설계를 풍부하고, 다양하게 하는 등 중요한 의미를 지니고 있다.
