The purpose of this study is to propose the method for evaluating the increase of equivalent damping ratio quantitatively based on the fact that the energy of the concerned structure is decreasing as time goes on, when mainly control force is generated b- supplemental damping device. we calculated the differential energy function, and quantified the effect of damping device on the differential equation by taking the expectation of the both sides of the differential equation. It was assumed that disturbance applied to structure was stationary process. The proposed method can be used to get the equivalent damping ratio of structure with non-linear system such as Coulomb damping device as well as linear control system including passive/active control system.
