The inhomogeneity in nanocrystalline powder compacts may cause unwanted effects such as distortion and crack in P/M parts during subsequent high temperature consolidation processes. Hot isostatic pressing (HIP) is a promising method to obtain relatively large, bulk and near fully dense materials from nanometric metallic powders. The correlation between the relative density and hardness of a specimen produced by hot isostatic pressing of commercial stainless steel nano-powder was studied. In this work, hardness of the nano powder compacts was measured by a nano-indentation tester with Berkovich tip by maximum depth of 2000㎚. Due to higher relavie density, the nano-indentation hardness of stainless steel nano powder compacts increased.
