Synthesis of Amphiphilic Silica Nanoplatelets as High-Performance Colloid Surfactants

Amphiphilic Janus particles are widely considered as advanced Pickering emulsion stabilizers due to their unique biphasic structure. Herein, we report a new synthetic approach to obtain amphiphilic silica nanoplatelets (ASNPs) which enables self-assembly at the oil-water interface. For synthesis of ASNPs, we sythesized silica nanoplatelets (SiNPs) from polypeptide-templated silicification. For the preparation of macroinitiator, we conducted stepwise modification of SiNPs. ASNPs were prepared via SI-ARGET ATRP at the O/W interface. It is expected that our ASNP system could find practical applicability for development of interfacial catalytic reaction-controlled microreactors.
