      • Samuel Barber 의 Barber 의 Piano Sonata Op. 26 의 분석연구

        송주승,봉정원 한국음악학회 2001 한국음악학회논문집 음악연구 Vol.23 No.1

Samuel Barber (1910∼1981) was conservative and combined his music with conturapuntal melody, traditional harmonic expression, abundant color sensation, and romantic lyricism. But he was not completely parted from the stereotyped style of tonality. The result of the study of his Sonata for Piano op.26 will he characterized as follows. 1. The characteristic contrast of each movement is explicit. Each movement adopts the traditional structure such as sonata, rondo, ternary form, and fugue. 2. The use of chromatic scale and dissonance makes tonal ambiguity. But, the sense of fundamental tonality is retained. 3. The pattern of irregular rhythm is used through out the whole piece. 4. The second theme of the first movement and the subject melody of the third movement expresses Barber's lyricism. 5. Several restricted motives consist the core of the whole piece. Repetition, transformation, development, and contrast of motive makes cohesive structure. 6. Twelve tone technique of the third movement is used not as the rule or the row but as accompaniment. 7. Contrapuntal technique of Fugue in the fourth movement is significant. As has been observed, Samuel Barber utilized Classical form with Romantic expression and Classical and Modern compositional techniques.
