      • X-Window 환경에서 멀티미디어 회의 시스템의 구현

        This paper describes a desktop multimedia conference system implemented in the X-Window-based network environment, in which participants can conduct a meeting from their workstations or PCs. They can jointly view and process multimedia informations including document, text, graphics, and hand-written memo as if they are in the real meeting room. Therefore, this system can be used for a variety of purposes such as technical meetings, presentations, educations, remote diagnoses in the offices, homes, research centers, schools, and companies. Especially, it is effected to be used for distributed software development, joint authoring, and group decision support in the field of CSCW (computer supported cooperative working).

      • 전송 시간 조절에 의한 송신 주도형 동기화 방안

        이 논문에서는, 일정한 지연 시간 범위가 유지되지 않는 일반적인 망에서, 데이터 패킷간에 시간 관계를 가지는 멀티미디어 데이터를 전송할 수 있는 멀티미디어 동기화 프로토콜을 제안한다. 현재 제안된 동기화 방안들은 아직 실용화되지 않은 특정한 망의 기능을 가정하거나 특정 미디어만을 대상으로 하는 응용 환경을 고려함에 따라, 기존의 패킷 망이나 상이한 망으로 구성된 Internet 환경에서는 구현이 곤란하다. 본 동기화 방안은 점대점간에 다중 미디어로 이루어진 그룹 연결들을 갖는 모델을 채택하고, 각 전송 경로의 지연 시간을 추정하여 전송 시간을 스케줄함으로써, 전송된 패킷이 수신측에 마감 시간 직전에 도착 하도록 하고, 필요에 따라 미디어간 동기화 기능을 수행하도록 하였다. 정확한 스케줄을 위하여 전송된 패킷의 지연 시간을 측정하여 다음 패킷의 지연 시간을 추정하도록 하였으며, 또한 글로벌 클럭이 유지되지 않는 환경에서 클록 불일치 문제를 고려하여 플레이 아웃이 가능하도록 하였다. In this paper, we proposed the MMSP(Multi-Media Synchronization Protocol) to transmit multimedia data with a temporal relationship on general networks not guranteeing a constant delay time. As existing synchronization schemes have been proposed for future network not to be implemented or for specific environment to their applications, they are difficult to be implemented in general network such as packet networks or Internet which is composed of heterogeneous networks. This protocol adepts a model which has group connections called associations between two hosts. The transmitter part schedules transmission time considering the delay time of each transmission path for packet to arrive on time. The receiver part playouts the packet with intermedia synchronization function, if necessary. The protocol frequently measures delay on the transmission path for exact scheduling, and provides a playout capability in no global clock is maintained.

        In Wireless Sensor Networks(WSN) power consumption is an important and critical issue because it is difficult to replace or charge batteries in sensor nodes comprising a network. So, minimizing energy consumption and maximizing the network lifetime is a major design goal for this systems. wireless sensor networks can be used to various military applications, especially useful in intrusion surveillance and tracking of hostile moving objects. This paper presents a node scheduling method for a tracking mechanism of adversary moving objects using wireless sensor networks.

      • SUN Solaris 환경에서 시간 동시화 프로토콜의 구현

        We have proposed MASP(Multimedia Association Synchronization Protocol) to transmit multimedia data with temporal relationship on general networks not guaranteeing a constant delay time. This paper describes the implementation of the MASP to support the intra-media and inter-media synchronization for multimedia objects including continuous or discrete data.To implement the MASP we have represented the protocol using state transition table and completed the protocol's core module with a C-language.This module is fullfilled in a form of the driver within kernel using STREAMS mechanism in the SUN workstation with System V-based Solaris operating system.In addition, we also designed user interface and loopback driver.we tested MASP whether or not to work succesfully with our test program.The result is that the connection(and/or association) establishment/release functions work well and multimedia data such as video and audio can be delivered on time according to the target playout time.

      • 통신망을 통한 멀티미디어 전송에 관한 연구

        Multimedia Communications concerns the technology required to manipulate, transmit, and control multimedia across a network.Anyone who has ssurfed the Intermet with a WWW browser has experienced multimedia communications.But, he or she feels the deficiencies of the Internet for multimedia communications. The continuous media such as audio and video must be transmitted in realtime and in synchmnisrm, which are different from the discrete media like text or image. The Multimedia Streaming technologies are reviewed in this paper. Transport protocol, cosec and scalability research will eventually make video on the internet a practical reality.I have reviewed the currently available commercial products and describe the major research projects currently underway, which are attempting to solve some of these limitations.

      • 서비스 품질 조정을 고려한 동기화 전송 방안

        When continuous media are transmitted over the communication networks, asynchrony may occur due to a random transit delay, which can not maintain temporal relationships among packets. There exist two types of the transport protocol which considers for guaranteed or non-guaranteed resource networks. So do synchronization schemes. The former applies a resource reservation technique and maintains delay characteristics, however, the latter supplies a best-effort service. In this paper, I propose a intra-media synchronization scheme to transmit continuous media on general networks not guaranteeing a bounded delay time. The scheme controls transmission times of the packets by estimating next delay time with the delay distribution. So, the arriving packets may be maintained within a limited delay boundary, and playout will be performed after buffering to smoothen small delay variations. The continually increasing delay to network overload causes buffer underflow at the receiver. To solve it, the transmitter is required to speed up instantaneously. Too much increase of transmission-rate may cause network congestion. At that time, the transmitter performs media scaling-down by dropping the current packet when informed excessive delay from the receiver.

      • 스트리밍 제어 방안의 성능 평가

        Continuous media, unlike discrete media, have the limitation for a transmission-rate and delay variation. When continuous media are transmitted over a network, transit delays increase or some packets may be lost unless bandwidth is enough. Congestion and synchronization control, which are close relationships, are needed to solve the problem. This paper is about the performance evaluation of the congestion and synchronization control scheme which was proposed by us. The scheme was designed to avoid congestion and support synchronization by send-rate control, media scaling, and buffer control on a non-guaranteed network like Internet.

After analyzing I propose a proper direction for general computer education in university, especially for Dongyang University.

        In this paper, we implemented the Video Presentation System using Multicast IP in MBone(Multicast Backbone) environment. The software, which is composed of the transmitter and the receiver, has been developed with Visual C++, Video For Windows Development Toolkit, and Winsock. The implemented system was tested in LAN environment equipped with the multicast router, and is being tested over the Internet.

      • REAL™시뮬레이터를 사용한 동기화 프로토콜의 성능 시험

        In this paper, the Multimedia Synchronization Protocol has been tested using the REAL network simulator, which has been developed at Cornell university, USA. The REAL network simulator was developed to study the dynamic behavior of flow and congestion control schemes in packet switch data networks. However, it is not appropriate to testing the media synchronization schemes directly. I modified the REAL simulator' main code and added new functions appropriate to the synchronization operation. The test results are very useful for the performance evaluation of the synchronization schemes.
