In recent vehicles, the launch clutch is mainly used in hybrid or DCT transmissions instead of torque converter which is traditional starting device, as fuel economy is important. The clutch consists of several friction materials, lubricating and cooling by transmission fluid. Clutch slip control during gradient launch causes heat to be generated from the friction materials and may cause the clutch to be damaged. In order to protect the friction materials, it is necessary to predict the temperature of the friction materials during slip control to limit clutch operation if necessary. In this paper, we developed a simulation model for predicting clutch temperature using experimental method. The developed temperature model verified for accuracy by transient (at engage clutch) test and the temperature model error was within 10% of the maximum temperature compared to the experimental result Also, we confirmed accuracy of temperature model due to slope of engage, flow rate and temperature of fluid.
