Sijp is one of the most traditional literary ganres in Korean literature. As it depicts fellings and thougths of Koreans most effectively, it still survives now. In this theses, we shown special interest in Jeong Cheol and Park Inro, whoo were among the three most leading writers of the 17th century including Yun Seonde. We have focused our interest on the vocabulary they used by analysing the favorite words shown in their wori respectively. Jeong Cheol, compared with Park Inro, used rich vocablary in his Sijo. He generally used various words from nouns ot indicate human beings and used many adjectiyes describing weather, heavenly bodies, mountains, adn water. He also used the names of animals and plants. He still often introduced in his works the names of songe and dances and the musical instruments as well, showing himself as a nather tasteful character. Meanwhile, he used verbs mainly like "go, come, and see" to depict ordinary people's daily activities,a nd verbs also like "know and wonder" to describe mental or spiritual activities of men. Word other than those given above were adjectivies and adverba but he did not use demonstrative words such as "this, that, and the" and he used few exclamatory expressions. He was also different from other writers of Sijo in that he didn't employ as much vocabulary deribed from Chinese language as he did from original Korean. On the other hand, Park Inro's Sijo reveals the theme of didactic intention by means of employing nouns for morals and ethics, quoting the names of ancient Chinese loyal subjects adn obedient sons. On the contrary he never used the words for music and dance or musical instruments. Nor did he use any words for wine. He used verbs like "do, go, see, and etc" adn like jeong Cheol he frequently used "know and wonder." He also used verbs denoting service and repay and take care. He also frequently used adjectives, such as "dear, important, deep" to describe the dignity of human beings and the noble character. As a whole, Park Inro, compared with Jeong Cheol, had less vocabulary in use and has a rather dry expressions and abstract Chinese characters. In the above, we have observed that the vocabulary in the Sijo of Jeong Cheol and Park Inro respectivly. In the long run, we have discovered that the vocabulary is the reflection fo a writer's life and his view of life. Therefore, we should know that they have organically in their works used their own favorite words to reveal their feelings and emotions.

The theme of this thesis is a brief one surveyed how the novels in the latter part of Yt dynasty came to develop the idea of a Utopia. The era had just begun to turn the literary style from verses to proses along with the threshold of a new society. The following is the main trends shown is the novels in which people from rigidly different social status and different sexes expressed their wishes for a new ideal one. 1. The mean from Sadaibu or Yangban longed for Gwageo Geubje, the pass in the examinations for high ranking officials, in as young age as possible. 2. The wives of Sadaibu status, frustrated with the masculinecentered siciety, wished to have a life of their own, loving their husbands and being loved by their husbands. In the era to express love was not recommended for a good Yngban. 3. Likewise, the men from the lower class, not allowed to fulfill their dreams within reach of their ability only because they were born low, were also very eager to have a new society of equality. 4. The women from the lower class, anxious for the life enjoyed by their upper class counterparts, struggled for the new life of their own dreams.
