문학 공간과 에스닉 정체성의 문제 - 박미하일의 『헬렌의 시간』을 중심으로

재러5세 작가인 박미하일은 “자신의 뿌리가 ‘한국’이고, 모국어가 한글”이라고 여러 작품 속에서 반복적으로 강조하고 있다. 이는 곧 자신의 러시아에서의 유민(流民)으로서의 삶, 주변부인으로서의 정체성의 위상을 명확히 인식하고 있다는 뜻이다. 그리고 그는 이러한 자신의 주변부인으로서의 위상을 가감없이 수용한 채 한 사람의 고려인 소설가로서 겪어야만 했던 에스닉 정체성의 문제를 러시아 사회, 즉 중심세력과 문학적 형식으로나마 대결의 구도를 통해 해소해나간다. 그런데 그의 마지막 소설 『헬렌의 시간』에 이르면 이러한 그의 실존적 고뇌, 에스닉 정체성의 문제가 말끔히 해소된다. 부언컨대 그의 에스닉 정체성의 문제는 이제 더는 한국과 러시아의 문화적 차이 또는 차별로 인해 생긴 정신·심리적 고통의 흔적들은 찾아볼 수 없게 된다. 이렇듯 박미하일은 ‘살아갈 미래’를 하나의 청사진으로 가지게 됨으로써 『헬렌의 시간』에 이르러 그가 ‘살아온 과거’에서 벗어나 마침내 자기를 치유하고, 에스닉 공동체에도 희망을 선사하는 발판을 마련한다. 자기를 중심으로 세계를 작도(作圖)하는 것이 아니라 타자와 더불어 살아가는 윤리적·도덕적 존재로 스스로를 객관화시키는 자기 비약을 『헬렌의 시간』을 통해 보여준 셈이다. Mikhail PARK, 5<sup>th</sup> generation Koreano-Russian author, repeatedly emphasizes that his roots are Korea and his native language is Korean in his writings. This means that he clearly recognizes his life as an wondering people in Russia and his status of identity as a periphery. And he has accepted his status as such and resolved the issue of ethnic identity that he had to suffer as a Korean novelist through the literary form of confrontation with Russian society, in other word the central force. By the time, he reaches his last novel Citrus of Helen, however, his existential and cultural troubles and psychological pains of identity are completely resolved. But the issue of his ethnic identity no longer finds traces of suffering caused by cultural differences or discrimination between Korea and Russia. Like this, by having the blueprint for the future to live, PARK may have come to Citrus of Helen, and finally heal himself and provide a foothold giving hope for the ethnic community, getting out of his past life. Citrus of Helen, which is a self-elaboration that objectifies himself to an ethical and moral existence that lives with the other, rather than draws the world around himself.
