Vol.23 No.4
The purpose of this study was to examine the relation of social emotional competence, self-regulated learning and academic achievement. A questionnaire for social emotional competences, self-regulated learning, and academic achievement was distributed to 217 students from a middle school which was located in D city. To investigate the relationships among research subvariables, the stepwise method of multiple regression analysis was carried using SPSS. The results of the analyses were as follows: First, among the subvariables of social emotional competence, self-esteem and empathy were found to be significant predicting variables for academic achievement. Second, among the subvariables of social-emotional competence, social competence and empathy were found to be significant predicting variables for cognitive regulation; social competence, self-esteem, and empathy for motivational regulation; social competence for behavioral regulation. Third, among the subvariables of self-regulated learning cognitive regulation and motivational regulation were found to be significant predicting variables for academic achievement. The findings indicate that the improvement of students’ social emotional competence could have effects on academic achievement directly as well as indirectly through affecting self-regulated learning ability.

Furniture reflects historical, cultural, spatial background of human life style. This means that we cannot think of a furniture apart from the living environment.
This study is focused on the process of furniture design in residential interiors. Furniture design process devided into the theoretical research the formal design process. Basically theoretical background contains human activities in place, antropometric data, requisite furniture type according to activities and some guidelines for design. And the formal design process is consisted of visual main concept, series of sketches and the development of alternatives of design. Thus, the theoretical background need to be applied to the steps of sketches, and for the harmonious interiors systematically.
This study aimed at analyzing physical characteristics of art-walls which is a focal point in contemporary interiors of the apartment houses. The factors for the analysis were types of apartments, positions, widths, compositions of elevation, and materials of art-walls. 89 art-walls were selected for the analysis ranging from 76㎡ to 187㎡. The result shows that wood was mostly applied to art-walls in small types of apartment in combination with other materials, and the composition of elevation was asymmetric. If the width of art-walls became smaller, the elevation was dominantly designed with symmetrical grid using tiles. Tiles turned out to be the general material for the single-applied material. However, if more than two materials were applied to art-walls, wood was chosen as the main material. Regardless of the types of apartment, big-sized art-walls were usually designed in the living room, and two different types of materials were applied to the walls, It reveals that art-walls of apartment houses have been planned and designed with focuses on the living room in the housing space. To make a modular panel for the art-walls, 400㎜ and 800㎜ sizes were both suggested, 400㎜ for the smaller composition, and 800㎜ for the larger composition of the art-walls. A Wall image is becoming more essential to the living space these days, because it can be both decorative and also supportive to residents’ various individualities. Therefore, it is expected that further researches on art-walls are continuously performed, and also various designs of art-walls based on the modular system are developed in the near future.
