본 연구는 ‘자연 의미적 메타언어(Natural Semantic Metalanguage, NSM)’의 방법론을 적용하여 한국인의 의사소통 방식을 기술하는 것을 목적으로 한다. NSM은 자연 의미적 메타언어를 사용하여 문화 핵심어를 중심으로 한 의미설명(explication)과 문화스크립트(cultural script)를 방법론으로 발전시켜 왔다. 본 연구는 이 방법론을 기반으로 하여 한국인의 의사소통 방식 중 하나가 바로 속마음을 전달하는 방식과 관련되며, 이를 내부자적 관점에서 기술하는 데 초점을 두고 있다. 본 연구는 먼저 한국인의 ‘속마음’의 개념을 분석하여 의미설명하고, 다음으로 한국인들이 ‘속마음’을 전달하는 방식을 3가지로 구분하여 이를 문화스크립트로 제시하였다. 구체적인 속마음 전달 방식은 1) 속마음을 말로 표현하지 않고 전달하는 ‘이심전심’ 방식, 2) 실제 속마음과는 다른 말로 표현하는 ‘빈말’ 방식, 3) 속마음을 표현했다가, 자신이 했던 말을 거두어들이는 ‘속마음 회수’ 방식이다. 본 연구는 한국인의 ‘속마음’이 어떻게 전달될 수 있으며, 이를 NSM의 방법론으로 기술함으로써 민속화용론적 접근을 시도했다는 데에 의의가 있다. This study aims to describe the communication style of Koreans by applying the methodology of ‘Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM)’. Using natural semantic metalanguage, NSM has evolved into a methodology of ‘explication’ and ‘cultural scripts’ centered on cultural key words. Based on this methodology, this study considers one of the ways Koreans communicate to be related to the way they deliver their sok-maum(inner-heart), and focuses on describing it from an insider"s perspective. First, this study analyzed the concept of Korean sok-maum(inner-heart) and presented as an explication. Next, there were three ways in which Koreans delivered their sok-maum(inner-heart) and presented them as cultural scripts. The specific way of delivering sok-maum(inner-heart) is: 1) It is a "isimjensim(ideal inner-heart)" method of expressing one"s sok-maum(inner-heart) without expressing them in words, 2) "pinmal(seperate inner-heart)" method of expressing one"s sok-maum(inner-heart) in different words, and 3) "sok-maum hoyswu(withdrawn inner-heart)" method of withdrawing what one said when the other person"s reaction is negative. This study is meaningful in that it examines the way Koreans communicate with each other from an insider"s perspective and explained it using the NSM"s method.
