Meniscus deformation is observed as dimple and vortex core. Especially, vortex core can entrain slag into a mold. It is called slag entrapment. Then, it can cause a surface defect like scab and blister. Until recently, Numerical analysis has been conducted by k-ε model to reproduce vortex phenomenon in the mold. Although k-ε model is wildly used to comprehend vortex, we presume that k-ε model is not a proper method in some cases. Because it can’t describe vortex core except roll cell. In the past, rotating cylinder model had studied as laminar assumption. As a result, vortex core had reproduced in free surface of two phases flow using water and air. So, we have guessed that laminar assumption will be more suitable in the mold. As a result, vortex depth is well coincided with experiment result. And, meniscus deformation is well reproduced.
