Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine factors influencing satisfaction with clinical practice in dental hygiene students. Through this study, we suggested efficient guidance to increase satisfaction levels with clinical practice. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 235 students of clinical dental hygiene in Seoul·Gyeonggi·Chungcheong·Kyongsang and Jeolla province from June 9 to 30, 2017. The questionnaire consisted of questions on general characteristics (6 items), clinical practice characteristics (7 items), ego-resilience (14 items), family support (24 items), teaching effectiveness(35 items), and clinical practice satisfaction (30 items). Data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0. One way ANOVA, the Scheffe Post-hoc test, and the Pearson correlation coefficients were reviewed, and a multiple regression analysis was conducted. Cronbach’s alpha of ego-resilience, family support, teaching effectiveness, clinical practice satisfaction were 0.784, 0.892, 0.954 and 0.935, respectively. Results: ego-resilience was 3.24 points, family support was 3.24 points, teaching effectiveness was 2.93 points, clinical practice satisfaction 3.44 points. The meaningful variables which influenced clinical practice satisfaction were the ego-resilience, family support and teaching effectiveness. These factors explained 40.6% of the variance in clinical practice satisfaction. Conclusions: One of the most significant predictors of clinical practice satisfaction in dental hygiene students was teaching effectiveness. Therefore, a teaching program to improve eaching effectiveness should be developed and applied.
임상 치과위생사의 조직몰입, 긍정심리자본이 직무배태성에 미치는 영향

Objectives: This study aims to determine the degree of organizational commitment, positive psychological capital, and job embeddedness among clinical dental hygienists, as well as the factors that affect their job embeddedness. The goal then is to optimize the data to develop programs that will keep the hygienists from quitting their occupations. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 190 clinical dental hygienists from Feb 1 to April 30, 2021. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0. Results: Dental hygienists scored 3.30 points on job embeddedness. These factors accounted for 68.6% of the variance in dental clinic hygienists. The variables influencing job embeddedness were Position_dummy (general hygienist/senior hygienist) and organizational commitment. These factors had a variance of 68.6% among clinical dental hygienists. Conclusions: Job embeddedness of clinic dental hygienists is related to organizational commitment and positive psychological capital, and job embeddedness turned out to be the biggest effect factor. Therefore, developing programs and institutional support mechanisms for clinical dental hygienists is important to enhance their positive psychological capital and organizational commitment.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of happiness index in dental hygienists. This study can be used to improve the quality of life and the turnover intention in the dental hygienists. Methods: The subjects were 281 dental hygienists in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheong province. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by the subjects. The questionnaire consisted of 7 questions of general characteristics of the subjects, 7 questions of dental hygiene performance, and 9 questions of happiness index. The instrument for happiness index was modified from Suh and Koo. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.850 in the happiness index measure by Likert 7 scale. The instrument for professionalism was modified from Baek and consisted of 25 questions measure by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.694 in the professionalism. The instrument for turnover intention was modified from Lee and consisted of 5 questions measured by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.712 in turnover intention. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. for one way ANOVA, Duncan posthoc test, Pearson correlation coefficients and hierarchical regression. Results: The means of happiness index, professionalism and turnover intention of subjects were 4.44, 3.06 and 3.05, respectively. The happiness index was higher in those who are married(4.66), those who have high income, and those who have careers in dental hygienists(4.61). There were significant differences in the happiness index by the average daily working hours, place of treatment, work intensity and off duty hours. Conclusions: This study suggests that improvement of the happiness index in clinical dental hygienists requires the continuing and systematic education program and administrative support that can reduce the turnover intention.

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the factors influencing turnover intention in new dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 202 new dental hygienists in Gyeonggido, Chungcheongdo, Jeollado, and Gyeongsangdo from March 1 to April 24, 2016. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 19.0 program. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects (7 items), job-related characteristics (6 items), turnover intention (7 items), burnout (6 items), job satisfaction (13 items), job stress (10 items), organizational commitment (6 items), and critical thinking disposition (8 itmes). Results: Turnover intention was 2.92 points and burnout was 3.26 points. Each of job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and critical thinking disposition was 3.27, 2.95, and 3.32, respectively. Conclusions: The factors influencing turnover intention included age, job stress, job satisfaction, job burnout, and organizational commitment. Among them, job burnout had the highest impact on turnover intention.

Objectives: Identifying influencing factors of stress in clinical practice of dental hygiene students through controlling the amount of stress in clinical practice. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 226 dental hygiene students in Daejeon, Cheongju and Jeolla province from March 2 to 30, 2016. The contents of the questionnaire included general characteristics (6 items), clinical practice characteristics (4 items), clinical practice stress (16 items), quality of life (24 items), health promotion behavior (20 items), OHIP (14 items), and critical thinking disposition (15 items). Data was analyzed using SPSS 19.0. for one way ANOVA, scheffe` posthoc test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Cronbach`s alpha of clinical practice stress, quality of life, health promotion behavior, OHIP, and critical thinking disposition were 0.827, 0.913, 0.896, 0.921 and 0.778, respectively. Results: Clinical practice stress was 3.38 points, quality of life was 3.40 points, health promotion behavior was 3.21 points, OHIP was 4.21 points and critical thinking disposition was 3.17 points. Conclusions: Factors that had impact on clinical practice stress include sleeping state, satisfaction of clinical practice, practice number, and the quality of life, and they appeared statistically significant (p<0.05). This exercise showed the necessary manuals and system implementations in clinical practice, which can reduce the amount of stress in dental hygiene students.
교정환자의 구강건강관리에 관한 지식도와 태도 및 구강위생용품 사용실태

Objectives : Purpose of this research is to determined the general knowledge on oral health and the usage of oral hygiene products in the orthodontic patients and try to provide an appropriate oral hygiene products for the patients. Methods : Orthodontic patients who visited a dental clinic in Daejeon were selected and data from 352 patients were collected. Questionnaire based on survey was conducted from 1st of March to 30th in 2011 and all the data was analysed by using SPSS statistical program (VER 15.0). Frequency analysis, x2 test, T-test and the amount of diurnal variance analysis (one-way ANOVA) were also used. After that, scheffe`s post-test method was conducted. Results : According to the general characteristics of oral health care knowledge score was 2.87±0.60, the attitude score was 2.96±0.57. toothbrush replacement cycle were less than 3 months (p=0.007, p=0.000) and frequency of brushing one day more than three times higher in patients with knowledge to help attitude. according to the sex, age, and duration of orthodontic treatment with oral hygiene devices of usage was higher in the calibration toothbrush usage, awareness was higher in the interdental toothbrushes. according to the type of orthodontic devices from the oral hygiene devices usage, removable group was the orthodontic toothbrush and electric toothbrush group were highest in the ``unknown``, the fixed group was orthodontic toothbrush(67.3%) and electric toothbrushes(40.8%) was higher in the usage. Patients who used oral hygiene devices such as orthodontic tooth brush, interdental brush, electric toothbrush, water pik and fern solution showed wider knowledge on oral health care and oral hygiene devices compared to patients who answered as does not aware of oral hygiene devices and never used these products before. Conclusions : Orthodontic patient`s oral health attitudes, knowledge, and oral hygiene devices usage are the general characteristics of the highest in the orthodontic toothbrush usage, awareness was higher in the interdental brush. Water pik and fern solution, rubber and gingival interdental stimulator turned massage does not use or low. Based on results from research, overall orthodontic patients who visited a dental clinic had low awareness and usage of oral hygiene devices. Therefore, it is required to educate general publics and the orthodontic patients and also promote the importance of usage of oral hygiene devices.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting robot utilization in the education of pre-dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 238 dental hygiene students studying in the Daejeon, Chungcheong, and Jeolla provinces during the period March 1-31, 2017. Results: Future oral health education media had high selection of ‘movies,’ ‘video,’ ‘3D printer,’ ‘robot,’ and ‘drone’ In general education and oral health education, robots were appropriate as educators, assistant teachers, and media. This group had high levels of interest, experience, attitude, and learning scope of robots. Robot utilization education showed a significant positive correlation with the ‘interest,’ ‘experience,’ ‘attitude,’ and ‘learning’ subfactors (p<0.01). Factors influencing robot utilization education were the relationships among actual experience of robot, learning of robot production, social influence of robot, emotional exchange with robot, and the predictive power was 25.5% (p<0.05). Conclusions: Oral health education curricula using robots should be developed considering the emotional exchange and social influence between educator and learner.
