Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is valuable for the diagnosis of malignancies. However, PET/CT is unable to discriminate exactly between inflammation and a neoplasm. We report a case of a 50-year-old man with pulmonary paragonimiasis that was suspicious for lung cancer, as detected by PET/CT. The use of PET/CT revealed multilobulated consolidation on the right lung and patchy consolidation on the left lung, with increased fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake. In addition, the left paraaortic lymph node (LN) and peripancreatic LN showed enlargement with increased FDG uptake. Lung cancer with multiple lymph node metastases was suspected from the increased standardized uptake values (SUV>4.5) determined by PET/CT. We performed wedge resection via video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and found Paragonimus westermani eggs in the involved tissues. (Tuberc Respir Dis 2007;63:521-525)

The lack of sufficient oral mucosa available for intra-oral reconstruction has been dealt with by the use of skin or oral mucosa grafts harvested from donor sites but grafts requires more than one surgical procedures and could cause donor site morbidity. Many investigators have attempted to increase available soft tissue by tissue engineered skin or oral mucosa replacements for clinical applications. But, reconstructed mucosa by several methods have low physical properties such as rolling and contraction. The aims of this study were to develope an in vitro experimental model that maintains an epithelial-mesenchymal interaction by organotypic raft culture, and to characterize biologic properties of three-dimensionally cultured oral mucosa embedded with Polydioxanone mesh by histological and immunohistochemical analysis. The results were as follows; 1. Oral mucosa reconstructed by three-dimensional organotypic culture revealed similar morphologic characteristics to equvalent normal oral mucosa in the point that they show stratification and differentiation. 2. The expression of cytokeratin 10/13 and involucrin in the cultured tissue showed the same pattern with normal oral mucosa suggesting that organotypic co-culture condition is able to induce cellular differentiation. 3. After insertion of polydioxanone mesh, increased tensile strength were observed. These results suggest that three-dimensional organotypic co-culture of the oral mucosa cell lines with the dermal equvalent consisting type I collagen and fibroblasts reproduce the morphologic and immunohistochemical characteristics similar to those in vivo condition. And increased physical properties by use of polydioxanone mesh will helpful for clinical applications.
분자주형을 이용한 요중 1-hydroxypyrene의 측정 방법 개발

본 연구는 선행연구에서 molecular imprinting 방법을 이용하여 개발한 1-OHP 인식 TiO₂-Bead가 실제 소변중의 1-OHP를 효율적으로 검출할 수 있는지 평가하기 위해서 시행되었다. 본 연구에서 개발한 분석 방법은 within-day 변이계수가 4.97%, between-day 변이계수가 4.43%로 나타나 본 측정방법이 매우 안정적인 방법임을 확인할 수 있었다. 1-OHP와 유사한 물질들이 혼합된 용액으로부터 TiO₂-Bead-HPLC 측정방법의 회수율을 평가한 결과, 평균 105.6%의 회수율을 나타내었다. 실제 소변시료를 대상으로 기존의 효소-HPLC 측정방법과 본 측정방법 간의 상관성을 평가한 결과, 두 방법 간에는 높은 상관관계( r=0.74, p<0.01)를 보여 bead를 이용한 요중 1-OHP의 새로운 측정 방법의 유용성을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 개발한 새로운 측정방법은 기존의 측정방법에 비해 요중 1-OHP 농도를 보다 간편하고 저렴한 가격으로 측정할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 TiO2 코팅 bead를 응용한 요중 1-OHP 센서의 개발에 응용할 수 있을 것으로 생각되며, 분자주형을 이용한 bead의 개발은 1-OHP 이외의 다른 화학물질의 분석에도 다양하게 응용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. This study was performed to determine whether or not urinary 1-hydroxypyrene (1-OHP) levels can be accurately detected by our 1-OHP-detecting TiO2-Bead?HPLC assay that we developed based on the molecular imprinting method. Our method showed a variation coefficient of 4.97% and a between-day variation coefficient of 4.43%, suggesting that this may be a very stable method. In addition, the recovery rate of 1-OHP from a mixture of 1-OHP and similar substances using our TiO2-Bead-HPLC method was estimated to be 105.6%. The correlation coefficient between the conventional enzyme-HPLC method and this new method was 0.74 (p<0.01) when the urine samples were tested. Based on this result, it is conceivable that our method could be a useful technique for measuring urinary 1-OHP levels. Moreover, our method has some advantages of being easier and less expensive than the conventional method. The results of this study suggest that our method can facilitate the development of a urine 1-OHP sensor using TiO₂-coating beads and that development of beads by molecular imprinting can be applied to analysis of chemicals other than 1-OHP.
스테비아 잎추출물을 첨가한 그릭스타일 요거트의 발효특성 및 저장기간 중 품질특성

In this study, the fermentation and quality characteristics of Greek-style yogurt supplemented with stevia leaf extract during storage were examined. Stevia leaf extract was extracted from dried leaves with hot water and 70% ethanol. The pH decreased significantly in all samples over time during fermentation (p<0.05). In particular, the sharpest decrease was detected in the group in which the hot water extract of stevia was added. Acidity increased significantly over time during fermentation (p<0.05). Lactic acid bacteria counts increased in all samples up to 9 h after the start of fermentation, but decreased after 12 h. The sugar content decreased over time, and there were no major differences between samples. Based on the results of a sensory evaluation, the group treated with stevia extract was rated high in sweetness, but was rated somewhat low in color and flavor. Accordingly, it was rated low in overall acceptability. In a storability experiment, as the days of storage increased, the pH gradually decreased, and acidity showed a tendency to increase. The sugar content showed a tendency to decrease and then increase.
