Vol.27 No.6

This study is to reveal what it means for non-tenure professors to teach and research in colleges, and to see what the problems are for them. The subjects of this study are limited to the professors with fewer than 10 years of experience in college teaching after procuring Phds. Unstructured interviews have been conducted to look into meanings of teaching and research activities for them and additional interviews have been conducted with tenure-professors to comparatively interpret the interviews with the other group without tenure. As for the research finding, the meaning was looked into by dividing it into lectures and research activities. For some, lectures mean the means of livelihood and for others they mean the means of making themselves as teachers. When it comes to the meaning of research activities, it is divided into scholastic ones and mechanical ones. Scholastic research activities make them experienced academic researchers, while mechanical ones make them non-passionate research workers suffering form the pressure of meeting deadlines to maintain their teaching positions. I expect this study will contribute to creating better insight into the reality facing non-tenure professors in Korea.

Vol.28 No.4

As major subjects, this study deals with research, lectures, and voluntary services professors do in their career-building process. From the perspectives of retired professors and newly appointed professors, their activities and voluntary service experiences along with research activities, with many cases in various contexts being compared, have been examined, regarding the changes in their own era and society. It was to look into their hardships and difficulties within the courses of their activities. The study methods were firstly the sampling of professors, then getting through repeated interviews with them, and then finally structurizing their experiences. Research findings were about research, lectures, and voluntary services. First, their research activities are intertwined with research subsidy, research records, and graduate school students. Second, as for lectures, they are different from each other when it comes to physical skills, theory lectures, and students in accordance with whether they are retired or whether they are newly appointed. Third, as for voluntary services, retired professors recalls their young days differently from what is going on among newly appointed professors these days. In conclusion, social changes seem to have made big differences between the two groups, which gives some lessons to those who are preparing for the teaching jobs in college: enhancing their adaptability to social changes.

Vol.28 No.3

This study is to show foreign students" ideas, acts, experiences, conflicts, motivations, and goals in their Korea universities" lives in a form of narrative, which previous researchers have not deal with too deeply. This study is also paying attention only to those majoring in sports-related disciplines, who are in many cases in the less-academically motivated circumstances, differently from engineering or medical science majors. The research methods are “narrative approaches” centering on students from Asian countries who are studying in domestic colleges getting through multiple interviews, forming the structure of their thoughts, and generalizing their ideas, while trying not to enforce the conclusions desired in the research. The research findings are, as the high themes, motivations of studying, study experience, cultural conflicts, and academic goals, while, as the low themes, they are as follows: First, they are motivated to study here in Korea for the purpose of learning professional Taekwondo skills, sometimes, vaguely hoping to make money, and to learn advanced sport education. Second, their learning experiences are characterized as the difficulties of learning foreign languages and theories, along with problems of procuring academic credits. Third, they face some cultural conflicts due to some exotic cultures of Korea, such as binge drinking, seniority rules, and lack of information. Fourth, they aim to be teachers, gym masters, office workers in sport-related companies, or graduate students, getting back to the home countries.

Vol.28 No.2

This study is to look into what motivated sports-related majors to study in the credit center system run by the government and how they study. As for the research method, I contacted 4 of such centers, distributing questionnaires, and interviewing the students and professors. The research findings are as follows; First, the motivations to drive them to study there are the necessity to work while studying at the same time, relatively easygoing curricula, the short period required to procure the bachelor"s degree, recommendations from the people around them, and the actual teaching experience demanding them to have more knowledge. Second, those who are highly motivated are more pro-active in their academic activities, while those who are less motivated are relatively passive in their academic attitudes. In other words, those who have clear purposes as to why they have to study have positive attitudes to study activities, and vice versa. This study confirms the role of professors are more important, when it comes to motivating the students to study in the credit banking center system.

Vol.28 No.2

This study started from the suspicion that the university sport-major students are being taught through the pedagogy style teaching even though they are grow-ups. Accordingly, I tried to look into the recognition and purpose of instructors, the various viewpoints of students as to their self-image, roles, preparations, orientations, and motivations, and the necessary things to which andragogy methods must be applied, by analyzing what are the problems facing the adult learners, how they can lead their own studies themselves, how they can understand their learning experiences, and how they prepare for the study, and what their academic orientations are. The research methods I used have been to get interviews with academic informants, to read many literary sources, and other andragogy materials, by which I structurized the findings so that I can use the inductive approach to describe the research results. The research findings are like follows; First, it is true that instructors use pedagogy methods which make the adult learners depend on them and that their purpose is to teach only physical skills. Second, what must be considered when andragogy methods are applied to adult learners is to let the learners lead themselves in learning and take into account their personal experiences in the teaching processes. What they have to seriously consider is how to prepare for physical skill teachings and how to take care of the learners` personal tendency.

Vol.30 No.2

This study explored trends in sports-related research for about a year from January 2020 to January 2021, when the Corona 19 virus caused global pandemic. Through sports-related research, we identify how to understand and deal with pandemics and what the social phenomena and the direction of the research are. It also sought wisdom to cope with the second pandemic by identifying the propensity of sports research according to Covid-19. The research method was conducted in two stages. The first step was to extract all the studies related to Corona 19 and sports-related keywords listed in the Korea Research Foundation, and to explore them and categorize them as vertical and horizontal. The second stage was followed by a group of experts" interviews for the interpretation of categorized topics. The results of the study were classified vertically in to education, performance, and industry. Horizontally, it was classified as a way to prepare another pandemic and current situation of sports under Covid-19. The conclusion from this study was that most of the studies shown over the year were made up of the humanities and social classes of sports, and many researchers expected a second pandemic to come. Finally, we hope that this study will serve as an opportunity to understand the trends and changes in sports-related studies following the pandemic, and it will serve as a guide to predict and prepare for the future.

Vol.27 No.4

This study started with the judgement that it is necessary to understand the members of subcultures in sport areas as well as to study the sport subculture in general from the sociology standpoints. It is very important to study subcultures of professor assistants in sport-related colleges as they have their own unique subculture, about which nobody has studied. Accordingly, I tried to make this thesis an attempt to understand the forming process of their subculture, by which we can understand their social identity, as it is evident their culture has been established as a subculture of the organizations in sport colleges. The field research had been conducted three times: the first was to interview with graduate students by using questionnaires, the second was to directly interview 6 professor assistants about high topics and low topics, and the third was to conduct interviews with experts in order to enhance the credibility of this research. The findings are as follows; firstly, they are school workers as the capacity of administrators but when it comes to rights they were nothing but assistant without any actual arbitrary power. secondly, they are senior students helping student unions, playing the role of homeroom teachers for freshmen, and helping younger students as managers of school affairs. thirdly, as learners, they are providers of academic information, academic subcontractors of professors, and laborers rather than students. fourthly, as teachers, they are well-versed in academic affairs, teaching students passionately without being paid, and creating curricula of courses.

Vol.27 No.2

This study started when I recognized the necessity of a research on applying the educational engineering to sport lectures in college as there was no such previous lecture. Then I came to get interested in the fact that some are using smart phones in educational engineering, which made me design how to use them in sport lectures in college. This study is not to confirm the educational effectiveness of such methods but to affirm the fact that smart phones can be used in college sport education through educational engineering. The research method is to look into the actual scenes where the sports are being taught, designing the study plans, collecting materials from the scenes to analyze them in detail, and ultimately showing how educational engineering is used and how the learning is conducted by using the phones. As for the educational engineering, I made a blog which multiple learners can log in so that they can see video clips and lecture materials, and as for the learning processes, I encouraged them to correct what was wrong in their postures, watching the video clips, after letting them know how to access the blog through the smart phones. I hope this finding can be used in various fields other than sport education, getting through some modifications.
