화훼(flower & plant)와 예(art)가 결합하여 표현되는 화예(꽃예술)는 일반적으로‘디자인으로서 화예’와‘예술로서 화예’의 두 속성을 가지고 있다. ‘디자인으로서 화예’는 외형으로 드러나는 기능과 합리성을 포함한 합목적성의 상품미를 중시한다. 반면 ‘예술로서 화예’인 한국화예는 창작주체의 내면적 세계인 예술정신을 중시하는 순수예술(fine art)로 규정할 수있다. 따라서 ‘디자인으로서 화예’를 대변하는 서양플라워디자인은 외형적으로 드러나는 디자인적 형식에 중점을 둔 시각예술, 조형예술에 방점을 찍는다면, ‘예술로서 화예’는 조형에 기본을 둔 창작주체의 마음(心)과 생각(意)을 바탕으로 창작주체의 예술정신을 담아내어 표현되는 심상예술이며 의상예술에 방점을 찍는다. 그러나 오늘날 한국화예는 서양플라워디자인을 수용하면서 창작과정에서 동양의 사유체계를 지닌 미의식과 미감 추구보다는 서양의 개별적인 테크닉 향상에 주목하고 있다. 또한 한국에서 화예는 경계의 대상이 되었던 완물상지(玩物喪志)가 아니라 대상물에 집착하지 않고 지나침이 없으면서 대상물을 통해서 스스로 자기자신을 성찰하고 개인과 인간사회의 올바름의 선(善)에서 조절이 된 상태의 중절(中節)된 상태의 완물적정(玩物適情)의 사유였다. 본 연구는 중국의 문학작품인 심복의 『부생육기(浮生六記)』를 통해서 화훼에 대한 동양인의 미의식을 고찰하고자 한다. 넓게는 동양화예의 미의식을 고찰하였지만 더 세분화하여 동양적 미의식을 토대로 한 한국미를 담아낸 한국화예가 어떠한 것인지 찾아가는 방법이 될 수 있을 것이다. 이와 같은 타 학문과의 융합과정 결과물은 화예학문의 미학적 담론의 장을 더욱 확대시키는 계기가 될 것이며 아울러 유의미한 작업이 될것이라 기대한다. Floral Art has two attributes; ‘Floral Art as design’ and ‘Floral Art as art’.The former puts emphasis on product aesthetics equipped with functionality and formality. In contrast,the latter puts emphasis on artistic quality reflecting the spiritual world of the creator. In other words, the Western flower design representing Floral Art as design can be deemed as visual art (formative of figurative art) emphasizing design form shown outside, while Oriental Floral Art can be said as sort of mental state art emphasizing the spiritual world (mind and thought) of the creator. That said Korea’s Floral Art field today to put emphasis on the Western technique rather than aesthetic expression of the spiritual world based on the Oriental thought while accommodating the Western flower design. In this regard, this author, examining Shen Fu’s Six Records of a Floating Life(『浮生六記』), discusses aesthetics of Oriental Floral Art, which is currently declining amid the prevalence of the Western flower design. This study’attempt if a process in search of the identity of Korea’s floral Art based on the Oriental aesthetics on one hand, and a process of examination of form and content of fusion art due to be newly attempted in Korea’s Floral Art field on the other. We expect that this attempt may provide an opportunity to expand the ground of aesthetic discourses in the field of floral art.
