Bearing defect is one of the foremost causes of breakdown in rotating machinery. In many cases, the power cepstrum technique has long been used to detect the periodicity of impulsive signal resulting from the rolling element bearing defects. However the technique is not easy to detect the bearing defects because of the high level of background noise. We proposed an effective method for detection and classification of bearing defects such as inner raceway, outer raceway and ball defects, based on the use of high order moment cepstrum. The experimental results showed that the proposed technique can be used as an effective tool for detecting the extinctive pattern of bearing defects compared with the conventional power cepstrum technique.
