In order to investigate the cause of leaf chlorosis in ‘Campbell Early’ (Vitis labruscana B.) occurring often in heating culture, mineral contents of leaves, vine growth and chemical properties of soil were analyzed in the vineyards of three different cropping types. Leaf area and weight were not significantly different among cropping types. Nitrogen (N) and phosphoric acid (P) contents in leaf petiole of vines grown by forcing culture system were higher twice than those of vines grown in the field. Leaf potassium (K) content of vines grown in the heating culture among forcing culture was similar with that in unheated culture, but was higher twice than that of vines grown in the field. Magnesium (Mg) content was low more or less in leaves of vines grown in the heating culture. P and calcium (Ca) content of soil were significantly different among cropping types. Healthy vineyard showed low pH and higher contents of P and K compared to chlorosis-occurring vineyards, indicating that magnesium (Mg) was not deficient in soil of vineyards, but absorption of Mg was disturbed by excessive suction of K. The results show that the abnormal leaf chlorosis in ‘Campbell Early’ grapevines grown in heating culture system may be caused by early suspension of water supply in the soil for promoting fruit coloring and over growth of vines from poor meteorological condition.
