The paper interviewed five new overseas Chinese with children living in Korea. Through the interview, we learned about the language attitudes of the new overseas Chinese, multilingual educational awareness of children, and the efforts made to educate their children in multilingualism. The mother tongue of the new overseas Chinese is Chinese. Because they started learning English when they were young in China, English can also. They came to Korea and studied Korean again. So most of the new overseas Chinese are multilingual users of three languages. But the new overseas Chinese have different attitudes toward these three languages. They are very proud to speak Chinese. They have complex feelings about English. Because they have lived in Korea for a long time and have good feelings for Korean. They hope their children will learn Chinese and learn it as their mother tongue. But at the same time, they also emphasize the importance of English. They think English is an international language. So their own children must know English. Because they live in Korea. So they also teach their children Korean. They think their children will be able to master these three languages in the future. They have put a lot of effort into their children’s multilingual education. Some people send their children to overseas Chinese schools or international schools and return to China regularly. Some parents also try to create a multilingual environment for their children at home. (Yonsei University)
