광연대 측정의 기본 원리와 몇 가지 응용을 기술하였다. 광 연대측정은 결정체의 결함이 외부 에너지원으로부터 자극을 받아 여기된 전자를 구속할 있으며 구속된 전자는 열이나 빛과 같은 외부 자극에 의해 바닥 상태로 전이되며 이 때 빛을 발생하는 원리를 이용한다. 광연대 측정은 몇 십년 단위부터 몇 십만년 단위의 연대 측정이 가능하며 고고학적 지질학적 연구에 적합하다. The basic theory of the luminescence dating and its applications is described. The optical dating utilizes that crystal defects can trap electrons excited by natural radioactivity and give luminescence when external stimulat'ion such as light and heat, is applied. The range of the optical dating is from a few decades to hundreds of thousand years, which is useful for both archeological and geological dating. There are some commercially available systems, which automate the measurements.

청동기 시대 고고학 시료들의 광 여기 루미네선스 연대 측정

Controlled measurements of the optically stimulated luminescence signal from nonconducting, crystalline materials, such as quartz and feldspar, can provide a means of determining the time since the last heating of a place of pottery or the last exposure of a layer of sediment to sunlight, the age of the pottery or sediment, in a similar way to thermoluminescence dating. Whereas in thermoluminescence dating of sediment, only part of the latent thermoluminescence signal is bleached by sunlight as the sediment is deposited and allowance must be made during the laboratory measurements for the light insensitive component, optically stimulated luminescence dating has the advantage of working only with light sensitive traps in the crystal. Optical dating using blue stimulation of quartz grains from archaeological samples was undertaken, and the dates obtained offered good agreement with the ages derived by typological assessment. We conclude that the optical dating used here should contribute significantly to future archaeological dating work. 영이나 장석 등과 같은 무기결정을 빛으로 여기하여 방출된 루미네선스를 적당한 온도에서 관측하고, 관측된 루미네선스의 크기를 시간적으로 조절하면 대상시료의 고고학적, 지질학적 연대를 산출할 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 청동기 시대의 고고학 시료들로부터 석영을 채취하여 이를 청색파장의 빛으로 여기시켜 측정된 루미네선스를 시료의 연대산출에 응용하였다. 연대측정의 필수 요소인 자연축적선량은 최근 소개된 단일시료 재현법으로 결정되었고 열 전처리 조건에 따른 자연축적선량의 변화가 조사되었다. 얻어진 연대들이 고고학적 편년과 잘 일치하는 것으로 보아 광 여기 루미네선스 연대측정법은 앞으로 다양한 고고학적 시료의 연대를 산출하는데 매우 기여할 것으로 예상된다.
