The purpose of this study is to analyze mental toughness according of motor skill types and performance levels. Motor skill types were divided into open skill(Judo, Boxing, Wrestling) and closed skill(Track and Field, Shooting, Swimming). The performance levels were divided into two groups, elite and non-elite. Collected data used the mean, standard deviation, two-way ANOVA and t-test to analyze the difference of mental toughness according to the patterns of motor skill types and performance levels. The conclusions of this study are summarized as following. First, there were significant differences in self-confidence, arousal control, attention control, visualization and image control, motivation, positive energy, and attitude control between motor skill and levels of performance. Second, there were significant interaction effects between patterns of motor skill and levels of performance in self-confidence, arousal control, attention control, visualization and image control, and attitude control except motivation and positive energy. Third, there were significant differences between open and closed skill in self-confidence, arousal control, attention control, positive energy, and attitude control except visualization and image control, motivation. And there were significant differences between elite- and non-elite in all of sub-factors of mental toughness test. Fourth, in the patterns of motor skill type, elite group with open skill was higher than closed skill group in all of sub-factors of mental toughness test except the motivation and attitude control.
