Recently, FCEV has been well known for the low emission and environment-friendly vehicle to the automotive industry. There are many differences between FCEV(Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) and ICEV(Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle). Especially, one of the main differences is cooling system. ICEV is to cool the engine system but FCEV is to cool the stack. For this reason, FCEV cooling system has to complement low outlet temperature of stack and much mass flow rate. On this paper, we have studied the high performance fan motor assembly with integrated controller of stack cooling system for FCEV and evaluated its performance and reliability under the certain test condition. In addition, in an effort to enhance the safety, we add self-diagnosis function to the inverter controller of fan motor. As a result, we have got satisfactory test result and the high performance fan motor assembly with integrated controller is applicable to the stack cooling module for FCEV.
연료전지차량의 스택 냉각수를 이용한 히터시스템 개발에 대한 연구

Heating source of Our company’s FCEV was only high voltage PTC heater. This system has the merit of quick heating compared with existing heater system using waste heat energy of vehicle’s engine. But the system has the cold RAM AIR inflow problem to the passenger’s side at blower OFF and the fuel efficency falling-off problem (40.2%↓) by using 5㎾ high voltage PTC for heater operation. This study developed our company’s first hot-water heater using stack coolant in the second stage of MOHAVE FCEV and improved heating performance and fuel efficiency (max 38%↓) by combination of hot-water heater and PTC heater at optimal condition, and proposed guide about the development direction of FCEV, the next generation’s environment-friendly vehicle’s heater system.

본 개발의 목적은 연료전지차량에 탑재되는 연료전지 시스템에 장착될 공기공급기를 개발하는 것이었다. 개발된 공기공급기의 형태는 공급해야 할 공기의 유량과 압력 범위, 소음 및 향후 양산성 등을 고려하여 원심형 블로어를 선택하였으며, 차량 부하에 따른 공기공급량을 제어하기 위한 제어기도 적용되었다. 또한 차량에 적용될 경우, 예상되는 가혹한 사용환경에서 안정적인 성능을 발휘하고, 내구성을 할 수 있도록 설계되었으며, 특히, 외기온도 45?C에서도 충분한 방열성능을 갖도록 모터 및 모터 방열구조를 설계하였다. 이를 위하여 공급되는 공기로 직접 모터를 냉각하는 개념을 적용하였다. 개발된 터보블로어의 응답성을 포함한 성능평가를 수행하였으며, 설계점에서 600시간 연속운전을 통하여 기본 내구평가를 완료하였다.

In the fuel cell vehicles, there is usually a falling-off in durability caused by the inflow of air into a cathode area when the stack is down. In this study, the air cutoff valve was developed which could block the air passage to ensure the durability of the stack. Unlike a typical valve, it is important to secure the stability for preventing malfunction in the operation. And it must operate normally when the exhaust gas containing much moisture is frozen around the valve by the low temperature in winter. A valve satisfying conditions above was designed in this study. Then, some tests were carried out on a test rig and a vehicle to verify the improvement of durability of a fuel cell stack.
