        Objective; The military casualties should be packaged into litters safely and securely without delay. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physical properties of a new litter fixation strap with hook-and-loop fastener applied, and the degree of time reduction in patient packaging using the new strap. Method; A fixation strap was made of nylon with maximum tensile strength applied with a hook-and-loop fastener. Its physical properties such as tensile strength, shear strength, peel strength and anti-fouling capacity were evaluated by Korea Textile Inspection and Testing Institution. The patient packaging time was measured with a conventional standard strap and a new strap using an 80-kg dummy. The packaging time was measured three times each with 20 skilled and 20 unskilled soldiers. Result; The newly manufactured strap showed sufficient physical properties to be used as a litter fixation strap. The patient packaging time was strikingly reduced by at least 100 seconds even with unskilled soldiers. Conclusion; The new litter fixation strap with a hook-and-loop fastener applied can replace the current standard immobilization strap with significant packaging time reduction, which can result in improved survival of casualties in the battlefield.
