Al-Si alloys and Al-Mg alloys were turned with K10 tool to examine the cutting behavior under wide range of cutting conditions. The effects of mechanical properties (hardness, tensile strength, such cutting conditions as cutting speed, feed, depth of cut) on principal components of cutting force and on cutting ratio were tested. The number of primary 'silicon in that alloy by casting to die cavity having larger cooling rate during solidification was remarkably increased in comparison with biscuit. The finished surface roughness of the alloy was effectively improved when the size of chip became remarkably fine by adding Si or Mg.
