An inverter-driven induction motor is used as the traction motor for a high speed drive system that required safty, reliability and performance and so on. rotor bar and end ring of the traction motor are the electrical equipments which form the conductive close loop and then induce current by interaction with the current of stator, the materials selection of rotor bar and end ring are seriously considered in the aspects of electrical and mechanical specification and Motor slip relation to inverter. Particularly motor slip guarantee the safty and reliability of induction motor, this paper show the material selection and the determining of slip in the design of traction motor for high speed train by analyzing the specifications of material being used currently.

Since recent inverters are formed IGBT WVF inverter its switching speed has been increased relative to the conventional inverters and the motor design based on the switching surge voltage at the inverter output is very important factor. Therefore, motor and inverter should be designed to have the optimal characteristics by considering the mutually limited conditions.<br/> On this research the design technology characteristics for inverter driving traction motor is compared to the products in Korea and the analysis is performed. Thus, it is intend to re-estimate the technology level and introduce the products by HHI, which is driving on Seoul subway line 6 since December, 2000.

An inverter-driven induction motor is used as the traction motor for a high speed drive system that required safety, reliability, performance, compact size owing to the space and weight alloted for attaching to train, etc. particularly it is possible to happen the saturation effects of flux density at constant voltage-frequency region and then increase very higher than the allowed capacity of no-load current and temperature in any case. therefore the optimum design of core, optimum voltage-frequency ratio, adoption of high grade magnetic core have been developed and researched for preventing these problems, this paper show the saturation effects of traction motor by measuring the induced voltage of search coil at stator teeth and presents optimum voltage-frequency ratio as well as optimum core design through the comparison with efficiency, power factor, load current and no-load current for korea high speed train.
