An ATF heat exchanger reduces transmission warming up time by elevating the ATF temperature quickly and regulates the temperature appropriately to ensure lubricating characteristics by heat transfer between the coolant and ATF. In another aspect, heat transfer from the coolant to the ATF causes insufficient energy to heat the cabin. In this study, the heat transfer characteristics of the plate type ATF heat exchanger is analyzed. the flow pattern of Coolant control valve is analyzed by the computational fluid dynamic method. The influence on fuel economy vehicles With a plate type ATF heat exchanger integrating a coolant control valve have been investigated.

Recently, researches are actively carried out to replace the ATF warmer and cooler functions with a single heat exchanger in order to improve fuel efficiency. The ATF oil, which has high viscosity at low temperature when starting up, is rapidly warmed up through engine coolant to reduce friction loss. The effect of design variables on the performance of the heat exchanger was investigated through CFD to optimize design of heat exchanger to cool high temperature ATF oil through low temperature engine coolant. Based on the analyzed result, the prototype was fabricated. The performance of the prototype was examined through experiments and compared with the analyzed results.

Reducing engine warming up time is one of the best way to improve fuel economy. High viscosity at low temperature of ATF oil takes up energy loss in a automatic transmission system and deteriorates gas mileage. An ATF heat exchanger reduces engine warming up time by elevating the ATF temperature quickly and regulates the temperature appropriately to ensure lubricating characteristics by heat transfer between the coolant and ATF. In this study, the heat transfer characteristics of the plate type ATF heat exchanger is analyzed by the computational fluid dynamic method. The influence on heat transfer characteristics have been investigated with respect to various design parameters of the heat transfer fin.
