이탈리아의 15세기의 가장 큰 특징인 선과 악의 혼재는 순수하고 성스러운 종교세계에서도 마찬가지였다. 교황청의 리더인 교황은 가장 성스러운 곳에서 가장 세속적인 통치행위를 행하는 군주였다. 혼돈스러운 15세기 로마 바티칸에서 델라 로베레 가문이 배출한 두 명의 교황은 족벌주의, 교황권 강화, 그리고 예술 후원을 통한 정치선전이라는 면에서 공통점을 지닌다. 식스토 4세는 실제 음모를 설계함으로써 자신의 악랄함을 드러냈고 율리오 2세는 거침없이 전쟁을 일으키며 이탈리아의 15세기를 수놓았다. 그 중에서 식스토 4세가 주문한 멜로초의 〈교황과 플라티나〉는 족벌주의와 교황권 강화, 인문학과 예술후원이라는 성격을 모두 한 자리에서 보여주는 훌륭한 수작이며 조카였던 율리오 2세 역시 미켈란젤로와 라파엘로를 적극 기용함으로써 자신의 정치적 전쟁 행위를 정당화하였다. Melozzo’s 〈Pope and Platina〉, ordered by Sixto IV, is an excellent masterpiece of nipotism, the strengthening of the papacy, and the support of the humanities and the arts and Julius II justified his political warfare.

주기장 스케줄링 문제란 공항의 물적, 인적 환경에 따른 도메인 특정한 다양한 제약조건들을 만족시키면서 운항 스케줄에 따라 공항에서 발착 예정인 항공기를 주기장에 배치하는 할당 문제이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 복잡하고 비정형적인 문제를 해결하기 위한 방법의 일환으로 인공지능의 기법을 이용한 주기장 관리 및 스케줄링 전문가 시스템(RACES : Ramp Activity Coordination Expert System)을 개발하였다. 시스템에서는 전체적인 스케줄링 절차를 도메인 전문가(domain expert)로부터 습득한 축적된 경험과 지식을 바탕으로 수행한다. 먼저 도메인 전문가로부터 지식 추출 과정에 있어서 경험적 휴리스틱을 바탕으로 문제를 적합한 하위 문제들로 분할하여 독립적으로 스케줄링하면서 필요시 도메인과 변수들을 공유하도록 한다. 또한 각각의 하위 문제들에 대해 시스템이 스케줄링을 수행할 때에는 제약조건의 특성을 고려하여 도메인을 여과시킴으로써 탐색 공간에 대한 효율성을 높이고, 제약조건 검사 시 제약 만족 재배열 방법을 통해 제약조건들 간에 충돌이 발생하는 문제를 해결하도록 하면서 결과적으로 사용자가 요구하는 최적에 가까운 해를 구하도록 한다. 이와 같이 구현된 시스템은 적합성 판정을 위해 실제적인 주기장 배치문제에 대해서 몇 차례의 실험을 하였고, 구해진 해는 도메인 전문가의 분석과 검증을 거쳐 항공기의 주기장 배치를 위한 의사결정 도구로서 가능성을 인정받았다. Ramp scheduling is a constrained assignment problem which aircrafts are parked at bridges and remote spots with the satisfaction of domain-specific constraints in the airport. In this paper, we have implemented the ramp scheduling expert system, which is called RACES (Ramp Activity Coordination Expert System), to solve the complex and dynamic scheduling problem. RACES was modeled suitably and developed from domain knowledge and experience which are acquired from the domain experts. Domain knowledge and experience are important factor in controlling the scheduling procedure. The system divides the problem into subproblems with experiential heuristics in the knowledge acquisition process. The system independently processes scheduling for the divided subproblems and shares variables and domains. During the scheduling, the system prunes the search space by applying domain filtering technique by exploiting the characteristics of various constraints. RACES makes near optimal solution that constraint reordering technique resolving conflicting of local constraints in each subproblems. For correctness of the system, we experimented the system with the actual examples and the domain experts analyzed the scheduling results. As the result, our system was approved by domain experts for the ramp scheduling in real environment.
