본 연구는 31명의 남녀 체육인들이 자각하는 각자의 위상과 여성 혹은 남성으로서의 여성체육인에 대한 인식을 탐색하였다. 5개의 개방형 질문에 대한 원자료는 총 139개로 나타났다. 이들 원자료는 질문문항과 성별에 따라 사회보편적 특성, 체육계 특유의 문화적 특성, 생물학적 업무특성 등 3개의 범주로 분류되었다. 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자신의 성 때문에 겪은 유리한 점과 불리한 점은 여(남)자이기 때문에, 문화적 편견, 업무특성 등에서 나타났다. 둘째, 체육계에 종사하면서 느낀 어려움 혹은 문제의식은 남성들의 술문화 적응, 체육계의 남성중심주의, 여성체육인의 자리매김 미흡, 체육계의 관행적 문제, 가정 및 가사로 나타났다. 셋째, 여성체육인의 대우에 대한 여성과 남성체육인의 시각차에 대한 반응은 제도적 불평등, 남성중심 및 선호, 역할한계, 참여 기회가 제한되어 있다고 응답하였다. 넷째, 여성체육인 대우여부는 부당한 대우, 일부분 정당, 전문성 인정 등이며, 마지막으로 경기력 측면에 반하여 리더로서 여성체육인의 역할이 미미한 이유는 사회적 통념의 장벽, 남성중심 체육계, 가사일, 대인관계, 조직 및 능력 부족 때문이라고 응답하였다. This study explored how 31 female and male sports-person understood their status and the view on female athletes. As a result, 139 raw-data and 3 categories were derived from the five open-ended questions. These raw-data classifies into three categories, which are the questionnaires and the universal characteristics depending on gender and society, the unique cultural characteristics of athletics, and the characteristics of biological job. First of all, this study shows that the disadvantages due to their sex are cultural bias and task characteristics. Secondly, the difficulties and problems that the participants have recognized while working in the sports world are a male-dominated drinking culture, a male-dominated sports society, the weak status of female athletes in the field, general problems about the sports world, and conflicts with home and household as a working man and woman. Thirdly, there are negative aspects on conditions about female athletes from both female and male participants, The positive view from the participants is performance-related treatment and gradual status improvement. But the negative views are institutional inequality, a male-dominated and favored society, and the limitation of a role and participation. Fourthly, there are still unfair treatments on female athletes and less recognition on female’s expertise. Lastly, the reason why female athletes are not significant in a leadership role in athletic performance is the barrier of social conventions, the male-dominated sporting world, houseworks, personal relations, the system in the field, and lack of ability.
