가면극의 교육현황과 교수-학습 방안 연구 : 2007개정 고등학교 국어교과의 <봉산탈춤>을 중심으로

The goals of this study are finding out the current state of education for Korean traditional Mask Drama and also looking for a specific way how we effectively teaching it to our students. We can understand about Korean traditional culture, literature and even korean art by knowing Korean traditional Mask Drama. It's created and shared by common people, so we can also get the idea about the values and their lives of those days. And also, Korean mask drama can make us have right values and help us learn about diverse language expression like satire and humor. It's because it criticized about those days' social problems in its contents. For that, we can also understand about the historical background. In addition, it has very independent and unique esthetics of drama in comparison to Western dramas, and these traits form the basic of Korean traditional drama education. Even though it has a lot of values and we all know it but, people pay less attention to mask drama education. I searched how many mask dramas are recorded on the korean text, especially the text for high school freshmen. Surprisingly, the result is most of them have only one mask drama, the「Bong San Mask Drama」. It's all the same. It is very shameful that our students are being taught about only one mask drama. And they don't even have whole of it. There is just part of 「Bong San Mask Drama」. It makes students' understanding about it more harder. They need to get more chance to learn about our traditional mask dramas. Meanwhile in a survey which is the subject was high school student, the result shows us most of mask drama education are just proceeded by teacher's one sided lecture. Mask drama is the literature that performed on a stage. It's a actual performance, so in this case cramming method of teaching doesn't work. For this reason, students have no interest in mask drama. There is no interactional trying during the class, they just sit there and don't participate. Therefore, this study suggests that Korean traditional mask drama class should be proceeded with role play. Role play has strengths that can raise students' interest and participation in mask drama class. Moreover, students can understand about korean traditional mask drama more effectively by performing a mask drama themselves. The subject of this course plan is high school freshmen and it's made up of total three times classes. In the primary class, the students learn theoretical things about the <Bong San Mask Drama> and Korean traditional mask drama. And in the secondary class, they remake the <Bong San Mask Drama> in modern way in group. In the tertiary class, they perform a mask drama and estimate and exchange their opinions about other's activities. Above all, these activities(making a mask drama, and performing it by themselves) make the learners(students) into independent participants so the effective learning of mask drama is also possible. Furthermore, group activities during the class are a sort of community activities, thus it could be a great chance to students to learn about community spirit and interactivity. 이 연구의 목적은 한국 전통 가면극 교육의 현황을 알아보고, 가면극 교육이 효과적으로 이루어질 수 있도록 구체적인 방안)을 모색하는 데에 있다. 한국 전통 가면극은 한국의 전통문화, 문학, 예술을 이해하게 한다. 그리고 민중들에 의해 창조되고 향유되었으므로 당대 민중들의 삶과 가치관에 대하여 이해할 수 있다. 다음으로 당대의 사회적인 문제들을 비판하는 가면극의 내용은 바람직한 가치관을 내재할 수 있도록 하며 풍자와 해학 등의 다양한 언어표현 학습에도 도움이 된다. 또한 서구 연극과 다른 한국의 독자적인 연극 미학을 보여주며 한국 전통 희곡 교육의 토대가 된다. 이처럼 많은 가치를 내포하고 있는 가면극이 교육적 측면에서 소홀한 대우를 받고 있다. 고등학교 1학년 교과서를 중심으로 가면극의 수록현황을 조사해보았다. 그 결과 대부분의 교과서가 한 작품만을 수록하고 있었으며 그 작품 또한 <봉산탈춤>으로 일관된 모습을 보였다. 또한 고등학생을 대상으로 한 설문조사를 통해 대부분의 가면극 교육이 교사의 일방적인 주입식 강의로만 이루어지고 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 가면극은 실연되는 문학이므로 대본을 토대로 한 주입식교육은 그 효과가 낮을 수밖에 없으며 학생들의 흥미를 불러일으키기 또한 어렵다. 따라서 이 논문에서는 역할극을 통한 한국 전통 가면극 수업을 제시하였다. 역할극은 학생들의 흥미와 참여를 높일 수 있는 방법이다. 또한 직접 가면극을 공연해봄으로써 한국 전통 가면극에 대해 효과적으로 이해할 수 있다. 수업 과정안은 고등학교 1학년을 대상으로 하며 총 3차시로 구성하였다. 1차시에서는 한국 전통 가면극과 <봉산탈춤>에 대한 이론적 학습이 이루어진다. 2차시에서는 모둠별로 <봉산탈춤>을 현대적으로 개작하고, 3차시에서는 모둠별로 가면극 공연을 하고 그에 따른 평가와 의견교환이 이루어진다. 무엇보다 직접 가면극을 구성하고 공연하는 모든 활동은 학습자를 주체적인 참여자로 만들어 가면극에 대한 효과적인 학습이 이루어질 수 있게 한다. 또한 모둠별로 이루어지는 공동체 활동은 학생들의 공동체의식과 상호작용에 대한 훌륭한 교육이 될 수 있을 것이다.
