소설의 인물은 소설 속에 등장하는 단순한 인물의 의미로 그치지 않는다. 학습자들은 소설을 읽음으로써 작중인물과 만나고 그들의 삶을 간접 경험한다. 이런 경험은 세계에 대한 인식을 넓혀 나가고, 작중인물의 삶과 가치관을 동일시할 수 있다. 이는 소설 작품을 단순히 이해한다는 차원을 넘어서서 삶의 가치나 방법을 배울 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 크다. 이와 같이 작중인물 교육은 소설교육에서 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있고, 그 의의를 분명히 할 수 있을 것이며, 학교 현장에서 학습자들이 이러한 기능을 잘 수용할 수 있도록 지도해야 할 필요가 있다. Ⅱ장에서는 2009개정 국어과 교육과정의 문학 목표를 살펴보고 이를 바탕으로 구체적인 문학교육의 목표와 소설교육의 목표를 제시하였다. Ⅲ장에서는 현행 고등학교 1학년 국어 교과서에 수록된 소설 작품인 염상섭의 『삼대』의 인물에 대해서 연구하였다. 세대를 중심으로 하여 봉건적 인물, 이중적 인물, 진보적 인물로 나누어 분석해 보았다. Ⅳ장에서는 작중인물 교육의 모형을 구체적으로 마련하여 제시하였다. 작품을 읽기 전 활동, 읽기 중 활동, 읽기 후 활동으로 나누어 인물을 교육하기에 적합한 학습 모형을 제시하였다. 또한 인물교육의 여러 모형 중에서 적합한 모형을 선택하여 고등학교 수업에 적용하는 방안을 마련해 보았다. 본고는 학습자들이 적극적으로 참여할 수 있는 인물지도 방안을 구체적으로 마련하여 학습자들이 소설 작품을 즐겨 읽을 수 있도록 도움을 주고, 소설 교육의 궁극적인 목적을 실현할 수 있도록 도움을 준 데에서도 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 본고의 작중인물 지도 방안을 보충하고 새로운 지도 방안을 더 많이 모색하여, 교육 현장에 적용될 수 있기를 기대한다. * This paper is focusing on the Characters teaching. Among those various fictions included in the textbook, this paper is focusing on the "Third Generation" by Sang-Seob Yeom. This selection is suitable for teaching the character of the novel, has a very high educational effect. The Characters of a novel are not just simple characters in the novels. Learners can meet the characters and go through their lives by reading novels. Thanks to these experiences, they are able to widen an awareness of a world and to identify themselves with a life and value of characters of a novel. It has an importance in that learners can find the value and style of living beyond a dimension that they simply understand the work. Therefore, teaching the characters of a novel has a critical status in novel education. We should ensure of that meaning and need to guide for learners to accept the functions. In chapter Ⅱ, I examined the purpose of literature in 2009 Revised Korean Curriculum and proposed a new purpose of literature education and novel education. In chapter Ⅲ, I studied the characters of ‘Third Generation' by Sang-Seob Yeom which is included in current Korean high school textbook for the 10th grade. I analyzed the types which are based on feudal, hypocritical, and progressive. In chapter Ⅳ, I specifically presented a model of teaching on the characters of the novel which consists of before-reading, during-reading, and after-reading activities to be suitable to teach the characters. Also I made a method for applying a model to classes for the high school. This thesis has an aim to make a proposal on teaching characters of a novel for learners to actively participate in classes and to help realize the ultimate goal of the novel education. I hope that this thesis can provide assistance to further studies by adding and finding the new ways of teaching characters of a novel.
