This paper describes on the aerodynamic performance evaluation of the oil-free centrifugal compressor equipped with magnetic bearing for a high-temperature heat pump. Utilizing the experimental setup, we tested the centrifugal refrigeration compressor installed on closed loop high-temperature heat pump system, the test equipments and test results are presented. The required performance of the compressor was tested according to the test code like the ANSI/AHRI standard 550/590, ANSI/AHRI 540 and ASME PTC 10. The oil-free centrifugal refrigerant compressor with magnetic bearing showed superior durability than the refrigerant compressor with gas-foil bearing even in sudden and continuous surging. In order to increase the measurement accuracy, the heat balance relations were compared by measuring the refrigerant mass flow rate, pressurized water flow rate, steam generation amount, and power consumption of a motor.

The compressor performance includes aerodynamic performance, thermal efficiency, operation reliability and durability. its performance is tested in view of its operational problem in the field. This paper describes on the aerodynamic performance evaluation and operation reliability test of the oil-free centrifugal compressor equipped with magnetic bearing for a high-temperature heat pump. Utilizing the experimental setup, we tested the centrifugal refrigerant compressor installed on closed loop high-temperature heat pump system, the test equipments and test results are presented. The required performance of the compressor was tested according to the test code like the ANSI/AHRI standard 550/590, ANSI/AHRI 540 and ASME PTC 10. As the results of the performance test, the process of finely adjusting the angle of the vaned diffuser was repeated to improve the compressor performance and compression ratio. The oil-free centrifugal refrigerant compressor with magnetic bearing showed superior durability than the refrigerant compressor with gas-foil bearing even in sudden and continuous surging. In order to increase the measurement accuracy, the heat balance relations were compared by measuring the refrigerant mass flow rate, pressurized water flow rate, steam generation amount, and power consumption of a motor. Currently, the durability tests are being conducted in order to respond the various needs for industrial use.
