고등학교 세계사 교과서의 삽화와 수도원 운동에 관한 고찰

우리나라 교육과정은 1차부터 현재까지 ‘학습 분량 적정화’라는 방향으로 세계사 교과서가 서술되어왔다. 하지만 이로 인해 오히려 역사 사실을 단편적으로 나열하는 데 그치게 되었고 이는 학습자에게 부담으로 이어졌다. 본고에서는 텍스트의 축소를 보완하기 위한 대안으로 삽화를 제시하였다. 서술 분량의 변화가 비교적 많은 수도원 운동을 중심으로 삽화가 어떻게 제시되어왔는지에 대해 살펴보았다. 1차부터 6차까지는 삽화가 많지 않았으나 7차 교육과정을 계기로 삽화가 세 배 가까이 증가하였고, 이에 대한 다양한 연구도 진행되었다. 하지만 2015 개정 교과서를 살펴보면 여전히 삽화의 종류는 한정적이며, 단순한 유적이나 유물을 제시하고 있다. 지금보다 다양한 삽화를 제시하고 교과서 본문과 연계된 유의미한 삽화를 제작하거나 발굴하여 제시한다면 학습자들에게 세계사에 대한 학습동기를 부여해 주거나 학습 이해를 향상시키는 데에 도움이 될 것이다. The curriculum of Korea has moved in the direction of ‘learning quantity rationalization’ since the 1st curriculum until now and that is how world history textbooks have been described. However, because of this, they have been limited to fragmentary enumerations of historical facts and this has led to be burdensome to learners. This article presents illustrations as a way to supplement for the reduction of text. Observations were made of how illustrations originating from changes in descriptive quantities have been presented, focused on monastic movements. While there were not many illustrations from the 1st to the 6th curriculums, the 7th curriculum became a turning point in which illustrations increased threefold and various related studies were conducted. However, observations of textbooks revised for 2015 show that illustration types are still limited and they still simply present remains and relics. A more diverse range of illustrations must be presented and if significant illustrations connected to texts in world history textbooks are made or discovered and presented, it will aid in motivating learners with regard to world history or improve understanding in learning.
