Alpha fetoprotein of the maternal serum was determined by radioimmunoassay in 20 cases of non-pregnant women, and in 151 sera from 144 women at different stages of pregnancy and 15 sera from 14 women after delivery. Serum Alpha fetoprotein concentration in Korean women was in a range of 0 to 20 ng. per mililiter. The initial increase of serum Alpha fetoprotein was noted after 11 th week of gestation. subsequently the serum Alpha fetoprotein level increased to reach its maximum level approximately 36th to 38th week of gestation. The maximum level of serum Alpha fetoprotein determined in the present study was 497ng. per mililiter at 36 th week of gestation. At term pregnancy it leveled off slightly. during the first trimester, the Alpha fetoprotein level ranged from 29 to 125ng. per mililiter; and during the third trimester, from 96 to 497 ng. per mililiter . At labor the maternal serum Alpha fetoprotein level ranged from 67 to 286 ng per mililiter. The serum Alpha fetoprotein level decreased rapidly following delivery and was almost returned to the normal level by 12 th postpartum day.

정상자궁내막의 Alkaline Phosphatase 및 Acid Phosphatase 활성도의 변동에 대하여

Acid phosphatase의 활성도는 증식기에는 거의 없었으며 분비기초부터 급속히 증가하여 월경기까지 지속되며 선상피세포에 주로 분포되어 있다. Endometrial enzymes were studied histochemically in the histologically normal endometrium of 50 control women. Alkaline phosphatase is more prominent in the proliferative phase than in the secretory endometrium showing even distribution between glandular and surface components. In glandular elements it concentrates in the lumenal tips of the cells, with scant or absent activity in the nucleus. Peak activ ityis noted around the ovulatory phase. Acid phosphatase activity remains low during the proliferative phase. There is a marked increase in acid phosphatase activity during the progestational phase with peak activity occruing premenstrually. Both glandular and surface epithelium exhibit these changes.

The occurance of toxemia during the first trimester of pregnancy is exceptional. When it does occur it is usually associated with a hydatidiform mole. Hydatidiform mole occurs in app- roximately one of 2,000 pregnancies, and is associated with symptoms of toxemia in 10 to 40 Percent of cases. Concurrent eclampsia,however, is very infrequent. Because of the relative rarity of this condition the following case is reported.

정상자궁 내막에 있어서의 beta-glucuronidase및 esterase 활성도의 변동에 관한 연구를 통해 비배란시기에 고도로 높은 활성도를 보였다. The endometrium is one of the most dynamic structures in human body. During the past 50 years meticulous, detailed description have appeared of the cyclic morphologic changes of the human endometrium and their dependency on steroid. Although there can be no doubt about the role of estrogen in promoting endometrial growth and progesterone in influencing differentiation, little is known of the mechanism by which such changes are accomplished. Endometrial enzymes were studied histochemically in the histologically normal endometrium from 38 control women. Beta-glucuronidase activity is greatest during the proliferative phase, showing a diffuse distribution in the cytoplasm of glandular and surface epithelium. Moderate localization is noted in endothelial cells of the blood vessels, and scanty activity in the stroma. Esterase activity shows considerable variation without specific difference throughout the menstrual cycle. Although surface and glandular epithelial cells are diffusely stained, greatest concentration are noted at the luminar border of gland cells. Stroma and blood vessels remain inert.
