This study was to evaluate the architectural space through neural networks. It shows reliability and validity of space recognition (spaciousness) in human sensitivity by three dimensional space felt through vision. The actual perception and learning pattern of space recognition (spaciousness) were classified with values of space dimension by learning algorithm of neural networks including back propagation algorithm. In this study, neural networks system was used for evaluating space recognition (spaciousness), it can be sought as a new approach to evaluate existing subjective space recognition(spaciousness) because learning can be performed by actual data of space dimension. In addition, utilization of these data can contribute to right communication between designer and users owing to forecast and evaluation of sensitivity in the process of design.

This study is concerned with the influence of house-warming (thermal) environment of region built of wood and RC on private residential housing in Okinawa, Japan. Here, wooden tile houses, which have been affected by China, are conglomerated. However, housings built of RC are provided due to the problems of wooden housing. Nonetheless, given the latest house-warming (thermal) environment, a new problem has emerged in both housing structure and living. In order to discover any differences between indoor and outdoor housing-warming (thermal) environments during the summer and the winter in housing with a slanted roof and a plain roof, built of wood and RC in this condition, the study used a vertical thermometer and a globe thermometer and conducted a comparative analysis of the housing-warming (thermal) conditions in paces according to the structure of each building as well as examining indoor temperatures both vertically and horizontally. As a result, it was found that housing with a plain roof built of wood was more beneficial than housing with a slanted tile roof, which furnished a clue for solving the problem of housing-warming (thermal) environment in residential housing.

The characteristics of chlorophyll fluorescence were studied in the leaves of Sargent juniper (Juniperus chinensis var. sargentii) and crowberry (Empetrum nigrum var. japonicum) under natural field conditions. The photochemical efficiency of photosystemⅡ(PSⅡ), Fv/Fm, was slightly lower in the leaves of Sargent juniper than in those of crowberry, and the non-photochemical fluorescence quenching (NPQ) was higher in the leaves of Sargent juniper. In both species, the Fv/Fm values decreased temporarily at midday. This midday photoinhibition was more severe in Sargent juniper than in crowberry. Between Fv/Fm and environmental factors, there was no significant relationship with any factor in Sargent juniper leaves, while there were significant relationships with all factors in crowberry leaves. These results suggest that Sargent juniper has the mechanism for protecting or avoiding the photodamage although it is more sensitive to environmental changes than crowberry.
