The purpose of this paper is to look into how the coming of the "ubiquitous age" will affect the formation of human identity, and how this changed situation will create new tasks for the humanities, transforming their eventual nature. From the perspective of the humanities, what will, with the rise of ubiquitous computing, happen to the technologies of writing deserves special attention. Traditionally, the humanities have been a culture of writing, with a special emphasis on literacy and the book. However, the development of new technologies underway has led to transform the nature of writing and its consequences for subject formation. For, thanks to digital reproduction, information can now be transmitted by way of "conduction," which can be seen as a new method of writing. In this paper, I am asking how this new logic of writing would affect the conditions under which human subjectivities and identities are formed, how this change would transform the way the humanities are conducted.
