申裕恒 慶熙大學校 1974 論文集 Vol.8 No.-

This paper deals with the life history of Sericinus telamon Donovan, based on field and laboratory observations conducted during the spring, 1960 to the fall, 1962 in Kwangnung, central Korea. 1. This species is widely distributed throughout Korea except Dagelet Island and Quelpart Island. It is also very common in Kwangnung. 2. The food plant of this species is Aristolochia contorta Bunge. 3. Egg: The shape is hemispherical, 0.8㎜ in diameter, 0.7㎜ in height. The color is orange. Its surfase is smooth and shinning with irregular brown spots on it. Egg period is 5―8 days. 4. Larva: It lasts from the middle of April to the end of May in the first generation, from the middle of June to the end of July in the second generation, and from the end of August to the end of September in the third generation. The larval stage consists of five instar. Each instar larval period is as follows: 1st instar, 1―2 days; 2nd instar, 3―4 days; 3rd instar, 3―4 days; 4th instar, 3―4 days; and final instar, 6―7 days. Final instar larva is black in color and there are many spines on it. The number of spines starting from prothorax toward tenth abdominal segment is 2·6·6·6·6·4·4·4·4·2·2. In particular, a pair of spines (6㎜ in length) on the subspiracular of prothorax is larger and longer than others and point forward and the larva wields it like and antenna in movement. 5. Pupa: Average length is 28㎜. The color is dark brown with irregular black stripes on its back. Each pupa has peculiar difference in the pattern of these stripes. The larva pupates on the underside of either a leaf of food plant or a leaf around food plant. Pupal period of the first and second generation is about 10―12 days, but the pupa of the third generation stays overwinter. 6. Adult: It emerges thrice a year. It occurs from the middle of April to the beginning of May, the middle of June to the end of June, and the end of July to the end of April. It lays eggs on a stem of the food plant. The average number of eggs in a group is 38, ranging from 12 to 95.

申裕恒 慶熙大學校 1979 論文集 Vol.9 No.-

This paper describes several important ecological problems of insects involved in nature conservation activities as follows: 1. The role of insects played in the ecosystem is described with their influence and relationship onto human beings. 2. Of a total of 39 species of birds belonging to 7 Orders the food habit of which has been studied, 36 species are found to have predator-prey relationship with certain species of insects. Most of birds dwell in die forests, and it appears that the predator role of the birds in biological control against insects is considered significant. 3. The status of Long-horned beetle, Callipogon relictus Semenov, the unique beetle appointed as natural monument no. 218 in Korea is discussed for future preservation of the species. 4. Several problems of agricultural pesticides in chemical control of insects are discussed to resolve environmental pollution as well as to seek for an alternative methods to the conventional insecticidal technique.

        申裕恒,李光源 慶熙大學校 1988 論文集 Vol.17 No.-

This research covered the survey on the nectar plants attracted by a total of 79 species of butterflies inhabited in South Korea including Mt. Soˇlak, Mt. Myoˇngii, Mt. Choˇnma, Kangchon, Kwangnuˇng, Namhansansoˇng, Is. Hong, Is. Ulluˇng, etc. for 6 years from 1983 through 1988. The results obtained were as follows: 1. A total of 48 classes of 105 species of nectar plants on which 79 species(41%) of butterflies fed among 193 species inhabited in South Korea were observed. 2. Of the nectar plants in which butterflies fed, the plants of Compositae were rated the highest at 14% of the nectar plants. The second were the plants of Rosaceae(13%), the third were the plants of Cruciferae(11%). 3. In examining the preferences of the butterflies to the colors of nectar plants, it was found that white color was preferred by 43% of the butterflies in the highest rate, followed by blue color os 20% of the butterflies, yellow color by 10.5% of the butterflies and the red color by 8% of the butterflies at the lowest rate. 4. Staphylea bumalda and Rubus idaeus var. microphyllus were the shrubs on which the butterflies most frequently coming to feed. And Erigeron annuus and Cirsium japonicum var. ussuriense were the weeds on which the butterflies were most frequently coming to feed. 5. Pieris rapae showed the widest range of diversity to nectar plants by feeding on 18 species nectar plants. The second was Mellicta athalia which fed on 17 species of nectar plants. The the third was Artephaneura alcinous which fed on 16 species of nectar plants.
