Grid-Connected three-phase PWM inverters are widely used for distributed generation systems (e.g., Photovoltaic, Fuel cell, Wind turbine etc.). These inverters are usually connected to the utility grid through LC filter, to reduce the current harmonics injected to the grid. An alternative filter is LCL filter, compared to LC filter, it can provide better harmonic attenuation and lower filter size. However, the design of LCL filter is complex and needs to consider many constraints, such as current ripple, filter size, switching harmonics attenuation and reactive power absorbed by filter capacitor etc. This paper deals with filter design for grid-connected voltage source PWM inverters. By analyzing inverter-side total harmonic distortion and current ripple attenuation factor, the filter parameter can be easily determined. The proposed LCL filter design method is verified by simulation.
