A simulation model of a belt integrated seat(BIS) is established using a computer simulation program ATB (Articulated Total Body). The model is validated by the well consistent with the dynamic load test with a conventional belt integrated seat. Hyper-ellipsoid elements are used to improve the accuracy of a simulation model and numerical results show the better performance of a BIS than a conventional seat for the view point of a occupant safety. A parameter study of seat belt is performed to choose 'the proper belt for a BIS.

As the occupant safety receives more attention from automobile industries. protection systems have been developed quite well. Developed protection systems must be evaluated through real tests in crash environment Since the real tests are extremely expensive, computer simulations are replaced for some prediction of the real test The energy absorbing(EA) steering system has a very important role in vehicle crashes because the occupant can hit the system directly. The EA steering system is disassembled by parts and modeled by segments and joints. The body block test is carried out to validate the modeling. The established model is applied to a crash simulation of a full-car model and tuned again. After the modeling is. finished, components of the steering system are designed to minimize the injury of a passenger by an optimization algorithm.<br/>

In the crash environment, the safety analysis becomes very essential wi th the growth of automobile industry. Therefore. an airbag system is required to protect the occupant. The exact effects of an airbag can be evaluated from the barrier or sled test which is<br/> quite expensive. In this study. the airbag system in a domestic passenger car is analyzed with the computer simulation program CAL3D. The modeling of a passenger car including an airbag is established and the results are verified by comparisons with real crash 'tests. A graphic post-processor is developed for the dynamic behavior of an<br/> occupant. Some sensitive design parameters of an airbag are determined and design trends are recomended to minimize HIC(Head Injury Cri terion) wi th the orthogonal array of statistical methods.<br/>

A simulation model of a belt integrated seat(BIS) is established using a structural analysis and design program GENESIS. The model is validated by the well consistent with the static load test and a reference with a conventional seat. The Loading conditions are defined by the belt forces form the dynamic load test of a conventional belt integrated seat The seat components are reinforced to carry the crash force and a trend of the design of belt integrated seat is proposed through the process of structural optimization.
