        1. Introduction Mass communication has a large-scal function which delivers languages, letters and various symbols to the unspecified masses by means of highly developed machines. Its characteristics are as follow. a) a large quantity b) variety c) swiftness d) reliability e) publicity Study on mass communication has been mainly pursued in the U.S. and it was motivated by World War Ⅱ and promoted by the development of American capitalism and mass media, such as press. movies, radios, and televisions. In time of war mass communication is utilized to win the war, and in time of peace it can dedicate itself to the development of our education, science and culture. 2. Communication in feudalistic society and mass communication in modern society In feudalistic age population was scarce and social life was simple, so self-supporting and self-sufficient economic life was run among small villages. accordingly communication with each other was fully done by personal communication. Because feudalistic society was thoroughly grounded on the caste system, a large-scale communication was unilaterally rendered by the upper classes to the masses. They had to obey it unconditionally But after the International Revolution, society began to change and nowadays it was enormously developed, so personal communication developed into mass communication. Every phenomenon of feudalistic society was lost. 3. Dual operation of mass communication In magnified modern society mass communication has displayed the requisite function and at the same time it has shown some harmful by-effects. It's functions are as follow. a) Spreading culture Mass communication spreads languages, literatures, musics, fine arts, etc in the masses through varions media. b) Unifying society It maderates and unifies the complicated, split society, c) Propaganda It propagandizes and enlightens the masses, and through advice and suggestion it contributes to form proper public opinion. d) Recreation It supplies the masses with Comfort and repose. Its harmful by-effects are as follow. a) Commercialism In modern Capitalistic society mass communication is a commercial Concern, so cultural level is lowered and it paralyses society and spreads fungi throngh sensual recreation. b) Immorality of propaganda Propaganda itself is not evil or good Tobe evil or good depends upon the ways of utilization. Mass communication sometimes is misused for the propaganda of was policy, and commerce. Cultivating our knowledge abont propaganda will protect us from being affected by immoral propaganda.

      • 대학 전산망을 위한 교육 데이타베이스 설계에 관한 연구

        중앙 집중형 데이타베이스는 지리적으로 분산되어 있는 데이타를 효과적으로 처리하는데는 많은 오버헤드를 갖는다. 따라서 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 현재 각 대학에 있는 기존의 컴퓨터 시스템들을 전산망으로 연결하여 지리적으로 분산되어 있는 데이타들을 효과적으로 처리하고 상호간에 통신을 통하여 정보를 교환하고자 하는 필요성이 대두 되었다. 본 연구에서는 각 대학의 시스템들이 전산망으로 연결되었다는 가정하에서 대학 전산망을 효율적으로 지원할 수 있는 교육 데이타베이스의 설계 방법론을 제시하고, 설계 방법론에 따라 교육 데이타베이스를 설계했으며 대학 전산망에서 데이타들을 각 지역에 분산 시키는 데이타의 분산설계를 함으로서 분산 데이타베이스의 효과를 얻을 수 있도록 했다.
