Intraperitoneal Incubation of Bladder Acellular Matrix Grafts Improves Bladder Smooth Muscle Regeneration via Neovascularization

        Zhou Zhe,Zhang Ming,Xu Mingxi,Zhang Ke,Zhao Yang,Zhou Juan,Zhu Yingjian,Wang Zhong,Lu Mujun 한국생물공학회 2015 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.20 No.3

The objective of this study was to investigate whether intraperitoneal incubation improves the regenerative capacity of bladder acellular matrix grafts (BAMGs) in a rat model of bladder augmentation. After 2 weeks of incubation in the peritoneum of male rats, BAMG flaps with vascular pedicles were harvested for autologous bladder augmentation. As the control, BAMGs were directly used for bladder augmentation without intraperitoneal incubation. Histological analyses of the incubated BAMGs demonstrated extensive cell growth and vasculature in homogeneous collagen bundles. The cells were positive for vimentin and negative for α-smooth muscle actin and pan-cytokeratin AE1/AE3. Cystography revealed smoother contours of the augmented bladders in the incubated group at 4 and 12 weeks postoperatively. However, the bladder capacity was not significantly different between the two groups. In both groups, the entire urothelium regenerated well without obvious differences. At both time points, compared with the control group, increased numbers of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and blood vessels were found in the incubated group. At 12 weeks, the SMCs in the incubated group were more similar to those in the native smooth muscle fiber bundles of the bladder. Taken together, our results demonstrated that BAMGs preincubated in the peritoneum promote the regeneration of bladder smooth muscle via neovascularization in a rat bladder augmentation model.

Prediction models of the shear modulus of normal or frozen soil-rock mixtures

        Zhou, Zhong,Yang, Hao,Xing, Kai,Gao, Wenyuan Techno-Press 2018 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.15 No.2

In consideration of the mesoscopic structure of soil-rock mixtures in which the rock aggregates are wrapped by soil at normal temperatures, a two-layer embedded model of single-inclusion composite material was built to calculate the shear modulus of soil-rock mixtures. At a freezing temperature, an interface ice interlayer was placed between the soil and rock interface in the mesoscopic structure of the soil-rock mixtures. Considering that, a three-layer embedded model of double-inclusion composite materials and a multi-step multiphase micromechanics model were then built to calculate the shear modulus of the frozen soil-rock mixtures. Given the effect of pore structure of soil-rock mixtures at normal temperatures, its shear modulus was also calculated by using of the three-layer embedded model. Experimental comparison showed that compared with the two-layer embedded model, the effect predicted by the three-layer embedded model of the soil-rock mixtures was better. The shear modulus of the soil-rock mixtures gradually increased with the increase in rock regardless of temperature, and the increment rate of the shear modulus increased rapidly particularly when the rock content ranged from 50% to 70%. The shear modulus of the frozen soil-rock mixtures was nearly 3.7 times higher than that of the soil-rock mixtures at a normal temperature.

      • Wafer-scale synthesis of monolayer two-dimensional porphyrin polymers for hybrid superlattices

        Zhong, Yu,Cheng, Baorui,Park, Chibeom,Ray, Ariana,Brown, Sarah,Mujid, Fauzia,Lee, Jae-Ung,Zhou, Hua,Suh, Joonki,Lee, Kan-Heng,Mannix, Andrew J.,Kang, Kibum,Sibener, S. J.,Muller, David A.,Park, Jiwoon American Association for the Advancement of Scienc 2019 Science Vol.366 No.6471

<P><B>Single-layer porphyrin polymerization</B></P><P>Two-dimensional polymers can be made as monolayer sheets through controlled synthesis at an interface. However, it is often difficult to create intact sheets over large areas that can be transferred onto substrates. Zhong <I>et al.</I> polymerized derivatized porphyrin molecules during laminar flow at a sharp pentane-water interface to form sheets that are 5 centimeters in diameter (see the Perspective by MacLean and Rosei). The authors used electron microscopy and spectroscopy to confirm that they had produced intact monolayers. These films were then transferred onto monolayer sheets of molybdenum disulfide to form superlattices for use as capacitors.</P><P><I>Science</I>, this issue p. 1379; see also p. 1308</P><P>The large-scale synthesis of high-quality thin films with extensive tunability derived from molecular building blocks will advance the development of artificial solids with designed functionalities. We report the synthesis of two-dimensional (2D) porphyrin polymer films with wafer-scale homogeneity in the ultimate limit of monolayer thickness by growing films at a sharp pentane/water interface, which allows the fabrication of their hybrid superlattices. Laminar assembly polymerization of porphyrin monomers could form monolayers of metal-organic frameworks with Cu2+ linkers or covalent organic frameworks with terephthalaldehyde linkers. Both the lattice structures and optical properties of these 2D films were directly controlled by the molecular monomers and polymerization chemistries. The 2D polymers were used to fabricate arrays of hybrid superlattices with molybdenum disulfide that could be used in electrical capacitors.</P>

      • An Optimized Splitting Attribute Algorithm for Inconsistent Conflict in Context Lattice

Zhou Zhong,Junzhong Gu 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.7 No.5

With the emergence of Cloud computing and Internet of Things, Context-aware applications face new challenges. One of them is big data from huge context application and sources. The main stream of applications have used not only real-time versions but also history versions of context data. This paper concerned about optimization techniques of storage and reasoning in the CMS (context management system). For our storage of context data from different sources, FCA Lattice has been employed as a kind of storage schema to support modeling and fusion of these different context data. Further, context conditions about data are essential to logical reasoning. Under different context conditions, context data can be promoted to be knowledge, which makes context reasoning readily. In the dynamic environment, to get reasonable results, reasoning services require their input to keep consistent in the changeable conditions. The changeable conditions can be represented as context attributes, intervals and relations etc. To make consistent knowledge available in the conditions, our pervious works have analyzed incremental cache and check of consistent intervals, and proposed a context lattice-based distributed optimized update algorithm. In this paper, based on the algorithm, our problem is to optimize the split function. The split is needed when current lattice has no condition making knowledge consistent. The main aim of this paper is to improve time performance of splitting attributes or intervals or fuzzy relations that could be detailed. We propose a new parallel split algorithm. This algorithm computes the priorities of candidates. To reduce time cost, it decreases the split scope by choosing the split candidate with the highest priority value. To decrease the full lattice update time in the split process, it generates the sub lattices split by the candidates concurrently and merges them after. On the theory, we analyze the feasibility of the algorithm. On the test, as a new part of the whole update algorithm, it is compared with the naïve one, and it shows the better time performance. What’s more, it makes multi-threads execute on the same lattice to avoid producing more memory cost caused by copying the lattice for an independent thread.

Flavonoid Glycosides and Potential Antivirus Activity of Isolated Compounds from the Leaves of Eucalyptus citriodora

        Zhou, Zhong-Liu,Yin, Wen-Qing,Zou, Xiao-Peng,Huang, Dan-Ying,Zhou, Cui-Liu,Li, Lian-Mei,Chen, Ke-Cheng,Guo, Zi-Ying,Lin, San-Qing 한국응용생명화학회 2014 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.57 No.6

The extraction and solvent partition of the leaves of Eucalyptus citriodora, and repeated column chromatography for n-BuOH fraction yielded a new flavonoid glycoside, citrioside C (1), along with three known flavonoid glycosides (2-4). The latter were identified with kaempferol-3-O-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-glucopyranosyl (12)-${\alpha}$-$\small{L}$-rhamnoside (2), kaempferol-3-O-${\alpha}$-$\small{L}$-rhamnoside (3), and quercetin-3-O-${\alpha}$-$\small{L}$-rhamnoside (4). Their chemical structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic data analyses including NMR, MS, UV, and IR. All constitutents were isolated for the first time from the leaves of Eucalyptus citriodora. The potential antivirus activity of all the isolated compounds was evaluated. Compound 4 showed potent antiviral activity against respiratory syncytial virus with 50% inhibition concentration ($IC_{50}$) value of $1.9{\mu}g/mL$ and selective index value of 9.8.

Dietary Tea Catechin Inclusion Changes Plasma Biochemical Parameters, Hormone Concentrations and Glutathione Redox Status in Goats

        Zhong, Rongzhen,Xiao, Wenjun,Ren, Guopu,Zhou, Daowei,Tan, Chuanyan,Tan, Zhiliang,Han, Xuefeng,Tang, Shaoxun,Zhou, Chuanshe,Wang, Min Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2011 Animal Bioscience Vol.24 No.12

The beneficial effects of tea catechins (TCs) are related not only to their antioxidant potential but also to the improvement of animal meat quality. In this study, we assessed the effects of dietary TC supplementation on plasma biochemical parameters, hormone responses, and glutathione redox status in goats. Forty Liuyang goats were randomly divided into four equal groups (10 animals/group) that were assigned to four experimental diets with TC supplementation at 4 levels (0, 2,000, 3,000 or 4,000 mg TC/kg DM feed). After a 60-day feeding trial, all goats were slaughtered and sampled. Dietary TC treatment had no significant effect on blood biochemical parameters, however, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (p<0.001), triglyceride (p<0.01), plasma urea nitrogen (p<0.01), and glucose (p<0.001) decreased and total protein (p<0.01) and albumin (p<0.05) increased with the feeding time extension, and day 20 was the turning point for most of changes. Interactions were found in glutathione (p<0.001) and the ratio of reduced and oxidized glutathione (p<0.05) in whole blood between treatment and feeding time. Oxidized glutathione in blood was reduced (p<0.05) by 2,000 mg TC/kg feed supplementation, and a similar result was observed in longissimus dorsi muscle. Though plasma glutathione peroxidase (p<0.01) and glutathione reductase (p<0.05) activities were affected by treatment and feeding time interactions, and glutathione S-transferases activity increased with feeding day extension, no changed values appeared in longissimus dorsi muscle. In conclusion, dietary TC supplementation affected the concentrations of some blood metabolites and accelerated GSH depletion in the blood of goats. In terms of less high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, the highest insulin and IGF-I concentrations, the highest ratio of reduced and oxidized glutathione in plasma, the dosage of 2,000 mg TC/kg feed might be desirable for growing goats to prevent glutathione depletion and keep normal physiological metabolism.

      • Establishing a Nomogram for Stage IA-IIB Cervical Cancer Patients after Complete Resection

        Zhou, Hang,Li, Xiong,Zhang, Yuan,Jia, Yao,Hu, Ting,Yang, Ru,Huang, Ke-Cheng,Chen, Zhi-Lan,Wang, Shao-Shuai,Tang, Fang-Xu,Zhou, Jin,Chen, Yi-Le,Wu, Li,Han, Xiao-Bing,Lin, Zhong-Qiu,Lu, Xiao-Mei,Xing, H Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.9

Background: This study aimed to establish a nomogram by combining clinicopathologic factors with overall survival of stage IA-IIB cervical cancer patients after complete resection with pelvic lymphadenectomy. Materials and Methods: This nomogram was based on a retrospective study on 1,563 stage IA-IIB cervical cancer patients who underwent complete resection and lymphadenectomy from 2002 to 2008. The nomogram was constructed based on multivariate analysis using Cox proportional hazard regression. The accuracy and discriminative ability of the nomogram were measured by concordance index (C-index) and calibration curve. Results: Multivariate analysis identified lymph node metastasis (LNM), lymph-vascular space invasion (LVSI), stromal invasion, parametrial invasion, tumor diameter and histology as independent prognostic factors associated with cervical cancer survival. These factors were selected for construction of the nomogram. The C-index of the nomogram was 0.71 (95% CI, 0.65 to 0.77), and calibration of the nomogram showed good agreement between the 5-year predicted survival and the actual observation. Conclusions: We developed a nomogram predicting 5-year overall survival of surgically treated stage IA-IIB cervical cancer patients. More comprehensive information that is provided by this nomogram could provide further insight into personalized therapy selection.
