      • Evaluation and Informatization of Textiles and Fashion Clothing : 5월 12일 10:30~11:30 (DH 101)

        Evaluation of textiles and fashion clothing is an important part in Kansei science and engineering. An enormous range of textiles is produced for use in clothing. If the information relating to these textiles is placed in a database so customers or buyers can browse, select, and purchase textiles using an information device, the textile maker will be able to reduce expenses relating to sample manufacture and exhibition costs. Furthermore, the firm`s market reach becomes global. A comprehensive search is necessary to find the new textile. A practical method was proposed based on a designer`s selection process and the use of multimedia instead of analysis by measurement. For the benefit of the international clothing design and production industry, it is necessary to develop a system of informatization of textiles that is suitable for the global market. Evaluation and informatization of clothing are useful to manufacturers in terms of garment design and to customers in terms of selecting suitable garments. We investigated the impression on Japanese and European jackets taking into account elegance aspect. We also evaluated Japanese and Chinese clothing by experts taking into account salability. The effects of combinations of patternmaking methods and dress forms on garment appearance were investigated. The effect of the difference between body dimensions and jacket measurements on the appearance of a ready-made tailored jacket was also studied. From these researches, necessary information was provided with the clothing form. Therefore, it is necessary to informatize the clothing form and to analyze the reason for the Kansei evaluation.

      • Fashion Textile and Apparel in Kansei Engineering

        Globalization of Japanese fashion had been a national policy in many years. However, the international presence and the market achievement are still poor. The reason should be clarified in order to contribute to the globalization of Japanese fashion business. In fashion apparel business, fashion design and textiles selection are one of the important process and those are an information processing and interaction process of information. Those process are related to Kansei (Affective) engineering. However, the processes contents are not clear and those will be the subjects of Kansei engineering. We have conducted a research project to solve Kansei engineering subjects in fashion and textile design for the international fashion market. Representation of a fashion designer is presented as a design picture and results of textiles selection are provided as a swatch. To obtain those results, the designer makes a hypothesis and decision. It will be a Kansei process. In our project, we have been described the Kansei information of the designer in design creation and textile selection through experimental design, textile selection, trial production and evaluation of fashion products. Based on the results, we have been conducting construction of TPS (Textile Proposal System) for e-Commerce (Business to Business / Business to Customer). Furthermore, by performing the textile selection of designers with the prototype of TPS, it was possible to clarify the textile selection process and thinking processes of the designer.

      • CONSTRUCTION OF DATABASE FOR A CUSTOMER-FRIENDLY RETRIEVAL SYSTEM OF APPAREL PRODUCTS

        A database was constructed for customers to find and choose and apparel product. The product information was collected from words on several kinds of advertisement, which purchasers meet in their ordinary life. The information was sorted and categorized in 8 basic mother categories (Target group, Color, Apparel type, Fabric, Size, Price, Manufacturer) to build a suitable database structure. Each mother category was arranged into subcategories. Also this study showed a demonstration version of the retrieval system. the research resulted can be used for more intensive retrieval system.

      • AP PAREL P RODUC TS RETRIEVAL SYSTEM BASED ON P SYCOLOGICAL FEATURE SPACE

        An apparel products retrieval system was proposed in which users can refer to products using Kansei evaluation values. The system adopts relevance feedback using history of the retrieval to learn the tendency of user evaluation. The system is based on a vector space retrieval model using products images expression as semantic scales. The system makes a query from user inputting information and retrieves closest products from the database. Revising algorithms of the difference method, linear multiple regression method and backpropagation neural network model are used for the learning. Some simulation was perfonned to investigate the effectiveness and criteria of the search. As a result of evaluation of the accuracy, it was found that the linear multiple regression and the neural network models are effective for the retrieval considering the individual Kansei.

      • Relationship between Patternmaker`s Proficiency and the Creation of Clothing

        We investigated the effect of patternmaker’s proficiency on the creation of clothing by observation of the patternmaking process for clothing. A designer made a jacket and skirt design. Japanese (P1) and French (P2) patternmakers were asked to make a clothing pattern for the same design to satisfy the designer. We observed the differences in resultant clothing patterns by the two patternmaker and discussed the reasons. Even though their patternmaking processes were similar, they made different shape of toiles. The collar shape that the designer emphasized in the illustration were different. It was owing to different recognition of the design. Differences in patternmaking process and resultant patterns were discussed in terms of education, experience and proficiency. P1 made her pattern considering the illustrations and her own information about the target consumer. P2 focused on capturing the designer’s intension by matching the proportions of the illustration. This difference was because of the patternmakers’ different working experiences and the different manufacturing systems in Japan and Europe. Even though the resultant toiles had different shape, measurements and silhouette, the designer was satisfied with both toiles. The patternmaker’s discretion was thus demonstrated. It was found that a fashion designer’s creation partly depends on a patternmaker’s proficiency.

      • Comfort evaluation of custom-made men’s dress shirts for special body type

        To verify the comfort of personalized men’s dress shirts for special body types, we evaluated the comfort of custom-made dress shirts by wearing test and using a 3D simulator. For subjects of forward head, sway back, rounded upper back, and forward shoulder, we made a ready-made shirt and three custom-made shirts for each body type by modifying the ready-made shirt. A comfort assessment questionnaire was conducted by wearing those shirts. An avatar is created on a 3D simulator using a subject's dimensions and shape, and wearing simulations were carried out using the same shirts pattern and the avatar. We compared the results of the questionnaires to the distribution of clothing pressure of simulation. With the custom made shirts modified the ready-made shirts, the number of discomfort parts of the ready-made shirts was decreased. In the simulation of the ready-made shirts, high clothing pressure is observed on the places where the subjects felt the pressure. High clothing pressure is reduced by wearing custommade shirts. Therefore, it was able to make comforter custom-made shirts for the special body types by modifying ready-made shirts. It was also found that 3D simulator can be substituted for wearing experiments targeted those special body types.

      • Studies on Clothing Comfort Evaluation of Footwear by Measuring Psychophysiological Response

        The footwear such as socks and shoes is the clothing which are necessary to our life. In this study, clothing comfort of the footwear was carried out by physiological responses and subjective evaluation. As a result, the effect to walking comfort by the height of a heel in female shoes became clear. Then suitability evaluation system of shoes was proposed from the measuring results. On the other hands, the clothing comfort of the hosiery was evaluated from ECG analysis. By this analysis, it became clear that the factor which influences the clothing comfort of the hosiery was the clothes pressure in the hosiery. In the future, plane shape of the foot and solid shape must be considered in order to design the hosiery.

      • Evaluation of Thermal Comfortable Feeling by EEG Analysis

        Thermal comfort by wearing clothes is the important element which gives influence to a clothing comfort. The thermal comfort of clothes have been evaluated by sensory test and physical property of clothes material. To evaluate a thermophysiological comfort. a new evaluation method which measures the physiological response such as electroencephalogram(EEG) is attracting the attention of many people. In the chilly environment, the EEGs in t재 kinds of thermal conditions : with and without clothes were measured. By utilizing the chaos analysis, the behavior of the obtained EEGs were quantiatively expressed in the correlation dimension. As a result, the correlation dimension of the EEGs in being thermal comfortable feeling by putting on clothes, was bigger than the correlation dimension of the EEGs in being cold and discomfort. These results suggest that chaotic analysis of EEG is effective to the quantitative evaluation of thermal esthesis.
