<P>We synthesized two nickel sulfide powders by simple method. One is nickel sulfide powder (CNS) by co-precipitation is composed of nano-sized nickel sulfides as NiS and NIS2. The other is nickel sulfide powder (HNS) by heat-treatment of CNS is composed nano-sized NIS. The electrode using CNS has a high first discharge capacity of 600 mA h g(-1) at 0.5 C and the discharge capacity after 20th cycle is 312 mA h g(-1). The electrode using HNS has a high first discharge capacity of 551 mA h g(-1) at 0.5 C and has the discharge capacity of 412 mA h g(-1) after 50th. The discharge rate capability has over 92% at 1 C versus 0.2 C. The nano-sized nickel sulfides are synthesized by simple co-precipitation method has good electrochemical properties such as high first discharge capacity, good cycle life and good rate capability for lithium secondary battery.</P>

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a severe and heterogeneous disease that lacks an approved targeted therapy and has a poor clinical outcome to chemotherapy. Although the RAS-ERK signaling axis is rarely mutated in TNBC, ~50% of TNBCs show an increased copy number and overexpression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). However, EGFR-targeted therapies have offered no improvement in patient survival, underscoring the need to explore downstream targets, including RAS. We found that both β-catenin and RAS, as well as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), are overexpressed and correlated with one another in tumor tissues of TNBC patients. KYA1797K, an Axin-binding small molecule reducing β-catenin and RAS expression via degradation and suppressing EGFR expression via transcriptional repression, inhibited the proliferation and the metastatic capability of stable cell lines as well as patient-derived cells (PDCs) established from TNBC patient tissues. KYA1797K also suppressed the stemness of 3D-cultured PDCs and xenografted tumors established by using residual tumors from TNBC patients and those established by the TNBC cell line. Targeting both the Wnt/β-catenin and RAS-ERK pathways via small molecules simultaneously reducing the levels of β-catenin, RAS, and EGFR could be a potential therapeutic approach for TNBC.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Occupants of apartment blocks tend to wear less clothing and exhibit lower metabolic rates than occupants of other building types. Further, the use of air conditioning systems to maintain certain comfort levels within living spaces automatically generates financial cost.</P> <P>Therefore, in this study, an acceptable comfort range that differs from the conventional normative comfort range was established. A thermal comfort control method was designed to satisfy both the economic and comfort requirements, and experiments were conducted accordingly. Subsequently, empirical data on cooling were obtained via surveys and measurements and employed to derive regression equations for the thermal sensation vote, comfort sensation vote, and percentage dissatisfaction, which indicate occupant comfort. The derived regression equations were used to graph the comfort range, and the overlap region was plotted on a psychrometric chart to enable identification of an acceptable comfort zone.</P> <P>The suggested acceptable comfort zone, which applies to apartment blocks in Korea, is outside the conventionally recommended comfort zone and can satisfy various occupant preferences, contribute to reducing energy consumption, and facilitate maintenance of comfortable living environments.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Empirical cooling data were used to derive regression equations for occupant comfort. </LI> <LI> The thermal and comfort sensation votes and percent dissatisfaction were analyzed. </LI> <LI> A thermal control method meeting economic and comfort requirements was established. </LI> <LI> An acceptable thermal comfort range for Korean apartments was identified empirically. </LI> <LI> This range can reduce energy consumption and satisfy various occupant preferences. </LI> </UL> </P>

목적 : 모체 혈장으로부터 가장 효과적으로 세포 유리 DNA(cell free DNA, cf-DNA)를 추출하는 방법을 찾기 위해 우리는 viral DNA 추출 방법과 일반 혈액 DNA 추출 방법을 이용하여 비침습적 임신 초기 태아 성별 확인 결과를 비교하였다. 대상 및 방법 : 임신 초기 44명의 임산부로부터 모여진 모체혈장을 통한 전향적 연구가 구성되었다. Cf-DNA는 viral DNA 추출 방법과 일반 혈액 DNA 추출 방법을 이용하여 각각 추출되었다. 정량 형광-중합효소 연쇄 반응(QF-PCR)을 이용하여 SRY 와 AMXY 유전자를 검출하였다. QF-PCR의 진단 정확도는 최종 분만 기록을 토대로 결정하였다. 결과 : 전체 44명의 여성이 실험에 참여하였지만, 최종 분만기록은 단지 36명의 여성에서 획득하였다. 이들 중 16명은 남아를 20명은 여아를 임신하였다. 두 추출 방법에서 태아 성별의 진단적 정확도는 일반 혈액 DNA 추출 방법에 경우 63.9%(23/26)였으며 viral DNA 추출 방법에 경우 97.2% (35/36)였다. 결론 : QF-PCR을 이용한 비침습적 임신 초기 태아 성별 확인에 있어 viral kit를 사용하는 것이 높은 진단적 정확도를 이끌 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. Purpose: To find the most effective method for extraction of cell-free DNA (cf-DNA) from maternal plasma, we compared a blood DNA extraction system (blood kit) and a viral DNA extraction system(viral kit) for non-invasive first-trimester fetal gender determination. Materials and Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted with maternal plasma collected from 44 women in the first-trimester of pregnancy. The cf-DNA was extracted from maternal plasma using a blood kit and a viral kit. Quantitative fluorescent-polymerase chain reaction (QF-PCR) was used to detect the SRY gene and AMEL gene. The diagnostic accuracy of the QF-PCR results was determined based on comparison with the final delivery records. Results: A total of 44 women were tested, but the final delivery record was only obtained in 36 cases which included 16 male-bearing and 20 female-bearing pregnancies. For the blood kit and viral kit, the diagnostic accuracies for fetal gender determination were 63.9% (23/36) and 97.2% (35/36), respectively. Conclusion: In non-invasive first-trimester fetal gender determination by QF-PCR, using a viral kit for extraction of cf-DNA may result in a higher diagnostic accuracy.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P> <I>Dendrobium</I> plants are the most important orchids used in horticultural industries and oriental medicine. Recently, several <I>Dendrobium</I> mutant genotypes with improved horticultural traits have been developed using various mutagens such as gamma irradiation, somaclonal variation, and aerospace mutagenesis. This study investigated genetic diversity and variations among 7 <I>Dendrobium</I> mutant genotypes and 11 commercial <I>Dendrobium</I> cultivars using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers generated from genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) analysis. In addition, the SNPs were converted into a competitive allele-specific PCR (KASP) assay to discriminate the <I>Dendrobium</I> genotypes. A total of 67,669,394 clean data reads were generated, with 3.7 million reads per genotype on average, and 38,168,915 (56.4%) mapped reads. A total of 517,660 SNPs were detected, which included 443,305 homozygous and 74,355 heterozygous loci. The frequency of transition substitutions was shown to be higher than that of transversions, and the transition:transversion ratio is 1.34. A set of 37,721 filtered SNPs was used to perform a phylogenetic analysis, which showed that there were clear differences among the <I>Dendrobium</I> genotypes based on their species. A total of 18 SNPs were used for the development of KASP assay sets, of which 10 were successfully applied to distinguish among <I>Dendrobium</I> genotypes. This study demonstrated that the SNPs and KASP assay sets are an economically efficient tool for mutant screening and for selection of elite genotypes in <I>Dendrobium</I> breeding programs.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> This study investigated genetic diversity in <I>Dendobrium</I> genotypes and developed KASP marker sets using SNPs generated from GBS analysis. </LI> <LI> A total of 517,660 SNPs were detected among 18 <I>Dendrobium</I> mutants and cultivars. </LI> <LI> 18 SNPs were successfully converted into KASP genotyping assays. </LI> <LI> These marker sets would be useful for identification of cultivars and the selection of elite genotypes for <I>Dendrobium</I> breeding programs. </LI> </UL> </P>
A comparative study of the correlation between adult acne severity and atopic dermatitis.

Background: Various study results have been reported about the correlation between severity of adult acne and atopic dermatitis, so far. Objectives: The aim of study was to compare the severity of adult acne using the total counts of pills and the total grams of topical agents prescribed for acne between the patients with and without atopic dermatitis. Methods: A total of 141 patients with adult acne were selected who had visited dermatologic clinic from June 2015 to June 2016 . Among them, 16 patients had atopic dermatitis and 125 patients did not. We collected the pills and topical agents prescribed for adult acne. The pills included doxycycline, minocycline, isotretinoin and the topical agents included 0.1% adapalene, fixed combination of 1.2 % cindamycin and 5% benzoyl peroxide. Results: Acne patients with atopic dermatitis were prescribed total 63.9 pills of antibiotics, 51.3 pills of isotretinoin and 47.8 gram of topical agents during a year. And patients without atopic dermatitis showed total 62.2 pills of antibiotics, 30.3 pills of isotretinoin and 43.6 gram of topical agents. There is no statistically significant correllation between two groups in the total antibiotics (p=0.9552), isotretinoin (p=0.4814) and the total gram of topical agents (p=0.3165). Conclusion: According to the above results, the severity of adult acne was not influenced by whether or not patient had atopic dermatitis. This study will be helpful for clarifying the relationship between acne and atopic dermatitis.
